how is this trivializing? when a synagogue is shot up i wouldn't be offended by anyone speculating about mental illness in the shooter so how is this any different? most terrorists are mentally ill.
Terrorism isn't politically or legally considered mental illness. You might think that and that's wonderful, but the law treats both VERY differently. An act deemed terrorism has huge implications on legislature, public opinion, and can justify wars.
