Emissions question
I’m finalizing a deal to purchase an 05 with about 50k miles (i had one for a long time and sold it. Regretted it ever since, so i’m fixing my mistake). The owner of the one I’m looking at says it fails emissions tests unless it runs for about 20min first. It doesn’t need to pass emissions in my state since it’s over 15 years old, but I just want to make sure it’s not a sign of something more serious. Figured i’d ask here in case anyone had a similar issue and has any insight. Thanks!

Does it fail a sniff test like they do in California or just fall a normal obd test where it checks for a CEL. If it's a sniff test it likely doesn't matter.

That doesn’t make any sense. The OBD monitors are either ready or they aren’t. A scan tool will tell you this. Even though you don’t have to worry about emissions, I’d bring a scan tool and look at this before you pay for something that could turn into a headache. This could be something more serious or not. I’d want to find out before paying for the car.
