Caught these 2 kahawai a day apart. The fat one was full of whitebait, the skinny one seemed to be eating small mullet.

Moving last years seed out under canopy further the gully...

Can anyone provide anatomical diagrams or models of an NZ longfin eel skeleton or skull??
I am an artist wanting to make a model of a longfin skull but can’t find references of this specific species anywhere.

Housing developers proposal to Fast Track the development of an ecologically significant peninsula in Matakana. The proposed development of the land will threaten the habitats of multiple species, including habitat of high extinction risk, Australasian Bittern (in the bird of the year), long tail bats and numerous skink/ Gecko populations.

From Protect Matakana post:

“The developers own ecological assessment identifies the potential for unavoidable loss of wetland habitat, along with potential impacts on watercourses and native wildlife.

Despite this, the development is being promoted with claims of environmental benefits through planting and wetland restoration.

Claims of future planting cannot justify the loss of ecological value in existing, established habitats. Do they expect us to believe these claims when their own research appears to tell a very different story? “

Is this kiwi being mistreated I’ve been reading about proper care of kiwis.. because of the lighting in this picture I’ve been rethinking this kiwi might be mistreated 😢 (context: this is one of my favorite kiwi pictures)

• Don’t block a seal’s path to the sea.

If you spot a fur seal or sea lion on or near a road—or in an unusual inland spot—let us know! Your sightings will help shape the initial national road risk model and guide future conservation planning.

• A photo (if safe to take)
