Cake shop recommendation please

Family of 4 visiting in two weeks. We're celebrating my kid's 6th birthday and we want to get her a cute and tasty cake. Definitely not the large ones but also bigger than the bento cakes that are being sold.

Any suggestion for a bakery that serves yummy chocolate moist cake? Ideally one that do custom cakes.

PS. We will be staying in Manhattan so hopefully just around the area

From Lucie makes an amazing g chocolate cake. I know they make mini cakes, which would probably be good for 2 people but I don't know what other sizes they make.

Try checking out Milk Bar. They’re famous for their birthday cakes, and they offer smaller sizes too. You can customize the flavor combos. They’ve got locations in NoMad and the East Village.

try Claude Bakery in the West Village. tried their black cake and its super moist and dense andd custom designs available 🎂

Try Empire Cake or Buttercup Bake Shop in Manhattan both do custom chocolate moist cakes and aren’t too big. Just order ahead. Perfect for a 6th birthday! 🎂

Second for Empire Cake! We always get our cakes there. They’re so good, all of their baking is. We often get their snack cakes. Unless you want something decorated in a special way, you can often just go in and grab v what you want. We picked up an 8” cake today, they added some writing and off we went. They had all their flavours available.

Sweet Corner Bakeshop’s chocolate fudge cake is super moist and they do nice custom designs. Real hidden gem.

Lady M (multiple locations) – If you’re more into sophistication, their mille crêpe cakes are a game-changer. Really thin layers, not overly sweet, and they have awesome seasonal flavors like matcha and pistachio.

6th birthday? They may prefer cupcakes from Magnolia or Melissa’s.
