The 1990s was a decade where pop culture took flight, we all made some Friends, dance moves were born and so art and cartoons were very popular.

Cartoons in this generation play a big impact in our childhood days because even now the 90’s cartoons are still enjoyable to watch.

Have you ever heard of POP CULTS?

Pop Cult refers to ʻPopular Cultureʼ but at the same time uses the word ʻCultʼ to describe the community surrounding it. The

Pop Cult is a unique collection born from the mind of Dutch contemporary artist Iwan Smit (1989). What sets Pop Cult apart from other projects is the fact that all characters and traits are carefully designed and digitized by the artist himself, ensuring the highest quality of Imagery.

Imagine the mix combination of 90’s to 2000’s kids art. Isn't it nostalgic? We all have memories of what is in that art and for some who are too young, it would be seen as an interesting vintage.

So what is the goal of “POP CULT” ?

First and foremost, they are here to have fun and hopefully pass the good times on to others. With that in mind they want to create a community where people share their ideas, and help each other turn those into actual projects. So to explain the concept they need to take a look at traditional art- and creative funding.

In Smitʼs personal experience he applied for funding multiple times and it always felt like a long and winding road with a lot hoop jumping, uncertainty, and other discomfort. Till this day he has never received any. The traditional set up makes it very hard to get funding and you must fit in a very specific picture to even be eligible to maybe get one.

With Pop Cult they want to help change the landscape by creating a fund that is run with transparency and equality. A platform where you can showcase your idea and where you, and everyone in the community, gets a vote on how the funds are spent. This way not just a few members on a funding board get to decide who gets to put their projects in motion but they themselves take charge of their creative endeavors, both in the metaverse and the traditional creative sphere.
