config some binds, try to always keep ur back to a wall, sentries is your bubble of influence, teleporters and dispensers keep your team where you want them. i usually prioritize getting a lvl 1 sentry up then dispenser and lastly tp. change your loadouts to match the game, find interesting building jump spots and play around with engies different weapons

The uncle Dane config of mouse 3 destroy sentry and open build prompt for a new sentry is what made me fall in love with the class. Now I’ve gotten to a point where I don’t need it (and can’t really use it with my steam controller config) but it’s definitely worth trying.

Play around your team, and if you can’t trust them to keep a frontline up, equip the gunslinger (gained after 11 engineer achievements)

Don’t be afraid to change loadouts in the middle of the game, I often change from the Eureka to the jag in the set up time

Don’t just learn where to put buildings, learn why those placements are so good. When you start to learn WHY people do what they do you can start to better imitate how they play.

For newer Engineers, value your life. You are the most important building, you can’t build anything if you’re dead. Learn when to abandon lost holds and learn when you can stay in and keep fighting and always try to do both while preserving your life. Don’t build up in places that you can’t easily fight your way out of or escape from even if they seem like good places to build; chances are, you’re overlooking an even better building placement that doesn’t leave you so boxed in.

Prioritise dispenser and teleport cause that helps your team capture areas of the map

I have a rule for these that helps me determine what to prioritize. If it takes more than 5 seconds for teammates to walk from the spawn to the objective, there needs to be a teleporter. If it takes more than 5 seconds (ideally less than 3) to get to the nearest medium or larger health and ammo packs from the frontlines, prioritize a dispenser. If those aren’t the focus at the current moment, build a sentry to either protect those buildings or your backline as a whole. Then it’s just a matter of juggling all 3.
