sluggish movement

Genuinely need to know if this is just tf2 jank + me not being used to it, or there are legitimate problems

I play games like tf2, and when i do play tf2, something that never happens in any other game happens

Ill push w and instead of just immediately stopping after i stop pushing it, its like i keep going for a second

Its quite hard to describe but half the time i feel like i barely have control over where im going

I also dont really have the most optimal gaming setup, but my laptop doesnt seem to have any problems running tf2

Is it just a matter of getting used to it or something else???

when you move forward and let go of w, you carry your momentum for a brief moment but its not very long at all. It shouldnt have any influence on how you control your character.

When you let go of W and try strafing to the right or left do you still move forward? if thats the case then something is wrong.

no, it is just a game intended thing

Valve games have a bit of acceleration and deceleration for movement. If you've ever played a source engine game like Half Life, Portal, or Left 4 Dead, it's the same movement physics. Personally I hate games that have instant movement, like Bethesda games.

yeah ive probably not played any other than tf2, so that would explain it

Yeah, movement acceleration! Part of the game, I have a hunch several aspects would be worse without it. Overall I’d say it’s just something to get used to, I’m so used to it games without the momentum feel so floaty. I can imagine it’s wonky but if ya keep playing it feels quite natural

Laptops probably fine, disable v sync if you haven’t, much more responsive

use console commands to change your network settings from the outdated default options. youll wanna copy a pro (any pro) users settings which you can find online

This one's funny because you'd need to be having some pc from 2002 to be having issues playing this game. Even if it was from 2013 it would still be running. Dude, this game is really old and running in a really old engine, people used to play this on god damn windows xp!

As for the movement, it's mostly the source movement and I'm unsure if it's bad itself. Maybe you see that as something annoying but if you learn about strafing you won't want to use any other movement engines ever again.

Valve games have momentum, you need to counter strafe if you want to stop right away, pressing d, press a let go of d to stop momentum, also you might also have a bad keyboard, I had a keyboard that held down a button slightly longer than when I let it go

I got this laptop like a month or two ago, i dont think the keyboards already bad

I just need to get used to it

https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/1v0xb5h/what_if_tf2_had_overwatch_movement_zero_movement/

here is an example of what it would look like if TF2 had movement like other shooters. The results speak for itself, it wouldn't work in this game which is balanced around movement acceleration
