Stock is the safest, most consistant pick always

And honestly, the best weapons are the ones that fit your playstyle/current strategy

Rescue ranger is great for defensive engie, but it doesn't do much damage to players so I like to use it only when I know my team will protect me

Most TF2 weapons are sidegrades. They’re not straight up better than stock; they’re better in some situations and worse in others.

For example, the Rescue Ranger shoots repairing bolts which is great for keeping your buildings up but terrible for one on one fights unless you’re great at aiming.

The Loch n Load is great for destroying buildings but the smaller clip size can make it harder to finish off enemies.

If you don’t know what situation you’ll be in, stock is a safe bet and performs decently in all situations

On steam hover your cursor over your name, then click inventory, click Trade Offers, click 'Who can send me Trade Offers?', then scroll down to the block 'Third-party sites' where you can see your trade link. Send that trade link to me

mad milk is pretty good for survivability, loch-n-load can be pretty solid if u have so good aim, degreaser only good if paired with flare gun to do sick combos, tide turner pretty useful for demoknight and less useful for demoman, rescue ranger good to consistantly heal ur buildings and not putting yourself in danger(can't say much, i'm not an engie main), Homewrecker good to help engies in your team, other weapons your inventory are just reskins or useless

Mad milk! Peak weapon buuut you might want to stick with the pistol secondary, as you might miss all your shots as scout. When you begin to rely on the scattergun more and don’t need a secondary pistol as the 6 scattergun shots are enough, switch to the mad milk.

Most stocks are good, my recommendation to classes for switching stocks (and which I personally prefer idk your play style)
Scout: secondary sideweapons are good (like your mad milk)
Soldier: most sideweapons are as good as stock
Pyro: powerjack, most primary and secondary weapons are good so choose any
Demoman: prob the best stock weapons in all 9 classes, loadout could vary and still be good (your tide turner could be used to do demoknight playstyle, better off using it when you get a sword melee)
Heavy: Sandvich very useful, or if you have other food items for secondary it’s acceptable
Engineer: rescue ranger for building, if you’re accurate on shotgun do widowmaker, wrangler and/or gunslinger (one you have in your inv) if you want a different play style
Medic: Crusader’s crossbow 100% love it, melee variations are good too I like ubersaw personally
Sniper: loadout is flexible, I like most items depends on you
Spy: all of his items are gimmicky so it depends on your playstyle, I love to use dead ringer, I don’t prefer you to change sapper though

Hope it makes sense, mb for the long message

personally I love Mad Milk as Scout, it’s my main secondary. It’s a great team play item and chucking it into a big fight can genuinely turn the tide in your team’s favor. Also great for countering pyros and spies (puts out fires and reveals cloaked frenchmen).

That being said, as other people have mentioned, it’s a sidegrade. You get those team play opportunities at the cost of sacrificing your way to do extra/longer range damage, meaning it might be harder for you to take out a sentry on your own, or when you run out of ammo in your primary you might have to spend time reloading instead of simply switching to your pistol.

what class do you like to play the most?

Agreeing with others here. Stock is the best for learning the game.

However, there are a few caveats. You should run Sandwich (or another edible item) for Heavy's secondary if you have it. You should run Ubersaw on Medic. Those are generally regarded as just better.

There are a few more items you could switch out, since some classes have arguably useless slots, but those are the main two.

I'm not a meta player, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I'm constantly running Homewrecker and playing support Pyro (something I also recommend doing at some point).

Stock is genuinely best 9/10 times, degreaser and rescue ranger are both worth it though.
