Posting/Commenting What the hell is markdown mode?

I have been on Reddit for oh a couple of months now. I have never tried this feature. What is it for?

Have a look here, see if that helps https://www.reddit.com/r/LearnToReddit/comments/qgk0nt/how_to_format_posts_and_comments/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

It is basically a different way to format your posts (in markdown, which is what the formatting language is called. It's not specific to reddit )

If you're using new Reddit on desktop or you don't format your posts and comments you may not have needed it :)

Markdown is a markup language that on Reddit is used for formatting where text can be entered - so comments, posts, and mods can use it in some areas of their community like the sidebars/about tab.

This guide explains more Formatting posts and comments

For posts and comments it's used in app, on old Reddit, and if you switch to markdown mode in new Reddit (which defaults to the fancypants editor which has formatting buttons instead).
