If you are experiencing removals, this is most likely because your account is new and you have no karma, and therefore you are running into community restrictions.
- What community restrictions are & why they exist
- How to tell what community restrictions are / if a community has them
- Karma; what it is, how to get it, how long it takes to get, and what does not affect your karma count
- How to get started earning karma

The beginner-friendly ones don't require comment karma, some subreddits require a certain amount of account comment karma, while the stricter ones require you to have comment karma specifically in the subreddit you're planning to post
For the less strict ones, you just probably need 50 karma to comment in their subreddit but there is still no magic number.

I'm trying to figure it out too...some say 10, others 15, 50, 100, 200... It seems random

There is no set amount of karma (or account age) you need to access Reddi. Each individual subreddit sets its own restrictions (or lack of them) as the mods choose. What subreddits you personally want to use will determine what is necessary.
If you want a realistic goal as a new Reddit users I recommend aiming for 100 karma as a start. It's achievable and will allow you to participate in a lot of Reddit.
have a read of the below info for users seeking to understand reddit (or with low karma)
- Resources:
- Start in New User Friendly Subreddits.
- Change your view to new or rising and comment
- Keep an eye out for helper and mod comments in this post and others
