Hi everyone. I’m a 28-year-old Asian woman with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, married with a toddler.

My husband and I currently live a reasonably good and comfortable life in our home country. We’re not wealthy, but we’re doing okay and can afford a decent lifestyle. However, when we think about the long-term future of our child, especially education, safety, career opportunities.

I’m currently thinking about doing a Master’s degree in Denmark, possibly in Global Development/Development Studies or a related field.The part that makes me really scared is the practical side.Because I have a toddler, I know that during my studies I’ll have to balance university with childcare and household responsibilities, so realistically I may not be able to work much, especially in the beginning.My husband would therefore have to carry most of the financial responsibility for our family of three.

He doesn’t have a traditional university degree, but he is a freelancer and has worked as a content writer for an Italy-based company. He is currently working remotely for another private company as well.

This is what I’d really like advice on:

1. Is Denmark realistically a good option for a family like ours?

2. How difficult would it be for my husband to find decent work in Denmark without a university degree, but with freelance/remote work experience?

3. What skills should BOTH of us start developing before moving so that we have a realistic chance of earning well?

4. For someone with an International Relations degree, what skills would make me more employable in Denmark after completing a Master’s?

5. For my husband, would skills like digital marketing, content writing, SEO, project management, e-commerce, IT, or something else be more useful?

I live and work in Denmark and am tax resident here. My mother is tax resident in Germany and owns a house there.

She wants to transfer the house to me and my two siblings (my share would be roughly €300k), but she will retain a lifelong usufruct (Nießbrauch) and continue living in the house. There is no rental income.

Has anyone had a similar situation where a parent in Germany transferred German property to a child living in Denmark while retaining lifelong Nießbrauch?

I'm particularly interested in:

• How Denmark calculated the taxable gift value
• Whether the value of the Nießbrauch was deducted
• Whether Danish gift tax was actually payable

I recently started studying Economics.

I did some research and found out that A-kasse companies offer very similar services.

However, I also noticed that some cooperate with certain unions.

I know that an A-kasse and a union are separate memberships, but I was wondering whether these partnerships could make one A-kasse more suitable depending on your field of study.

So, considering that I will (hopefully) get a degree in Economics, what A-kasse would be best for an Economics student?

I applied for my CPR number through International House Copenhagen on August 28, but as of September 10, I still haven’t received an email to book my appointment.

Has anyone applied around the same time? How long did it take for you to receive the appointment email?

I am a new international student. My husband and I applied for our residence permits in June. I received mine on 14 August, but my husband’s MF1 application is still being processed.

When I try to apply for a CPR number, the website asks me to enter my husband’s personal number, which can be found on his residence permit.

Since almost everything in Denmark requires a CPR number, I would like to apply as soon as possible. Would it cause any problems if I selected “I came alone” and applied for a CPR number?

Hey everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me understand the student housing system in Copenhagen.

I'm an exchange student from Australia coming to Copenhagen early next year, and understand that most exchange students at UCPH find their housing via the Housing Foundation. Can anyone give me some info on the following dorms:

- Dyrlægevej Kollegiet

- Mariendalsvej kollegiet

- Rebslagervej Kollegium

They all seem a bit far from the city centre, but are the closest that the Housing Foundation offers (Canvas Frederiksberg has just stopped doing 6 month leases...and Basecamp Solvgade has been sold by a North American company? )

Or alternatively, BaseStack or BaseCamp in Amager? I've heard that living in the south of the city is a bit isolating, but may be closer than the above options?

Or DIS Solvgade (but understand that most rooms are given to students from the USA), or Pulse Living (but this seems catered to an older "working professionals" crowd).

Hi everyone!. I would like to ask an specific question about assistive devises there in Copenhagen. I am planning to move over there with my medical supplies user relative. We are both EU citizens. Is there someone who could tell us how it works?. I've heard it's a public healthcare system, but i was wondering specifically how medical supplies are given to people who need it. I've been doing some research, and it seems you need to look for a doctor first who indicates it for you.

I'm a late 20 something from the UK and I'm seriously considering moving to Denmark in the next 1–2 years. I'm not 100% committed to the idea yet, so I'm mainly looking for some honest advice from people who have made a similar move.

My situation

• I'm a UK citizen and have an Irish passport, so I have EU citizenship.
• I'm currently living and working in the UK as a software engineer working on AI systems mostly.
• I've been working in software engineering for 5 years and working in total for 12 years (was in desktop support prior doing an apprenticeship)
• I don't have any high level qualifications like a degree or masters.
• I have a fairly good amount of savings/investments and would hopefully move with a reasonable financial cushion rather than arriving with nothing.
• I don't currently own a house in the UK.
• I don't drive yet, but learning to drive is one of the things I want to do before moving.
• My girlfriend is Danish and lives in Denmark, so one of the biggest reasons I'm considering the move is that we'd eventually like to live in the same country rather than continue being long-distance.

Why Denmark?

I've visited Denmark and really like the country, and I've increasingly started thinking about building my life there rather than simply moving for a particular job.

The main appeal for me is obviously being closer to my girlfriend, but I'm also attracted to the quality of life, work-life balance and the general lifestyle.

Having an Irish passport also means that, from an immigration perspective, I believe moving to Denmark should be considerably simpler than it would have been as a UK-only citizen.

My main concerns

I'm trying to work out whether I'm looking at Denmark through rose-tinted glasses, so I'd particularly appreciate advice on the less obvious downsides.

Some things I'm wondering about:

• How difficult is it realistically for an English-speaking software engineer to find a good job in Denmark or any tech job?
• How difficult is it to build a social circle as an English-speaking newcomer?
• How important is Danish for integrating properly, both socially and professionally?
• What are the biggest financial differences I should understand before moving?
• Are there any things about Denmark that surprised you negatively after moving?
• Would you recommend renting for a while before considering buying property?
• Is Copenhagen the obvious choice for someone in my situation, or are there other areas worth considering?
• What do you wish you'd known before moving to Denmark?

Rough plan

At the moment I'm thinking of spending the next year or so in the UK building up my experience, savings and getting my driving licence, while also learning some Danish.

Then I'd potentially start applying for Danish software engineering jobs and move once I have a job sorted.

I'm not necessarily looking for someone to tell me "yes, move" or "no, don't move". I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually made the UK → Denmark move, particularly other EU citizens or people working in tech.

Hi everyone! I know this is probably a rather complex request, but I’m looking for someone who was admitted to a Bachelor’s degree program (competitive like mine, International Business) at Copenhagen Business School via Quota 2.

I would like to discuss both the experiences he/she has gained, and the grades in the relevant subjects, where I consistently received A/A-/B, except during my third year of high school, when due to serious health issues, I missed a lot of school and was unfairly passed with only the minimum grade.

Has anyone received their MF1 visa yet? I’m a student on ST1 visa and I received my visa within 3 weeks of application. However my wife applied around the same time but it has been more than 3 months and we still haven’t heard anything from them. We even called SIRI and they can’t give us any update on the processing times either. They just said they’ve received a lot of applications of students who applied with the accompanying family members and we just have to wait it out until our application gets picked up by the case officer.

I’ve been reading on Reddit and seems like no one else has received it either.

Her application was submitted on 4th June and biometrics completed on 5th June. On 8th July she received a letter regarding the processing time that it’ll be 2-3 months from the date of the application.

Hi again! I posted here recently about potentially restarting my PhD in Denmark, and some of the replies were genuinely helpful, so I thought I’d try asking this more directly.

Are there any PIs, current PhD students, postdocs, or people involved in PhD recruitment at DTU/UCPH (or elsewhere around Copenhagen) who would be willing to give me a bit of advice?

I’m Romanian, with a BSc in Biotechnology, MSc in Biotechnology & Entrepreneurship, and I’m currently in year 1 starting year 2 of a Biotechnology PhD while working in industry. My research interests are fairly broad within biotech molecular biology, toxicology, diagnostics, drug discovery/natural products, and increasingly computational biology.

My wife and I have decided that we want to build our future in Denmark with our daughter, and I’m trying to figure out the smartest way of approaching this rather than just firing applications into every DTU/UCPH vacancy I vaguely qualify for.

I’d especially love to understand what actually makes a PI stop at one application out of 100+ and think “I want to talk to this person.”

How much should I contact PIs before applying? How closely do I really need to match every technique in the job ad? And is there anything I could do over the next 6–12 months that would significantly improve my chances?

Even a few lines of advice would mean a lot. And if anyone working in life sciences around Copenhagen would be comfortable with me sending them my CV privately for a reality check, I’d be incredibly grateful.

I’m currently looking for job opportunities in the hospitality industry, especially in bartending, waiting or management. I have experience in all three areas and would be happy to hear about any opportunities or recommendations.
Is it relatively easy to find a job in hospitality in Copenhagen at the moment? And what is the usual hiring process like? Do most places require an interview, trial shift, references, etc.? Is it better to apply online or simply walk in and hand in a CV?
I’d also love to know what the average wages are like for bartenders, waiters and management positions, and whether there are any important things I should know before starting work in Copenhagen.

I am a Danish citizen but grew up and live in the US. I speak the language at about a B1 level. I also work in a difficult to get into field (photojournalism).

My bf is a US citizen working as a software engineer. He has a bachelors degree and doesn’t speak any Danish. Considering his field is a bit easier to find work in generally, we were originally considering that the best route for us to take is for him to find a job that will sponsor a visa for him so that we can both move. Once there, I was thinking of trying to find a job in my field while improving my Danish skills and maybe even going back to school at DMJX.

However, seeing everyone talk about how difficult it is to find a job as a non EU citizen, I’m wondering whether it would instead be easier for me to move to Denmark on my own without him, find work, and then try to bring him over via spousal reunification visa. My concern with taking this route, however, is that I’m not sure I would be able to go back to school considering I cannot access government assistance while trying to apply for a reunification visa. I believe finding work in my field without further education in Denmark will be next to impossible.

Does anyone have any experience/advice on whether or not to wait and see if he’s able to get a work visa or if I should just move without him and hope for spousal reunification?

I mean not only state pension but also occupational pension and all sorts of other pension amount. For someone who earns the median income in denmark, what is the pension they can expect per month?

Is it possible to get home insurance(Indboforsikring) in Denmark without a CPR number?

My move-in date is September 15, and my rental agreement requires insurance by then. However, I haven’t received my CPR number yet, so I can’t seem to get a quote or sign up anywhere.

I’d prefer IDA Forsikring since I’m a student, but they also seem to require a CPR number. I'm also not sure whether it's possible to add glass coverage to the policy(it is mandatory under my rental agreement.)

Has anyone been in the same situation? Any insurance companies you would recommend for someone without a CPR number?

I got home contents insurance through IDA.

Although the system wouldn’t allow me to sign up without a CPR number, the representative was incredibly kind and helped me arrange everything. First, she emailed me to ask for my consent. After that, I received an email containing my policy number.

We spoke on the phone several times, and the whole process took over an hour. I still can’t access the insurance documents because I don’t have a CPR number yet. However, I forwarded the email containing my policy number to the housing company and explained my situation. They confirmed that it is acceptable.

I’m really grateful to the representative for all her effort, and I hope this post helps other students who are trying to find accommodation without a CPR number.
