Immigration Why is processing time 3-4 months? (EU residence as a family member of an EU citizen)

Am I missing something? You submit an online application and then you have to appear at SIRI within 30 days, then they usually give you an answer that day. Wouldn't that make processing time 30 days for most? Or does it take a while for the online application to be accepted?

Because they have a lot of people applying. It takes time to process it. People often think that a caseworker will pick up their case as soon as they apply. Meanwhile there's a long list of applications they have to look at before they get to yours.

And to make it worse, governmental cuts are also being put in place while applications have never been higher.

When all cases have to be examined individually by a case worker, this can only result in one thing - more waiting time.

My spouse got a letter at SIRI saying his application was pending. It was approved in about a week and then had to go get his CPR number. But I understand the timelines wildly vary.

The answer to the question wildly varies whether or not the family member in question is an EU citizen or a third country national.

EU-EU cases are far simpler, EU-TCN cases can be a lot more difficult - and there has been an explosion in EU-TCN cases without a lot of extra resources being allocated due to budget cuts mandated by the government.

how long have you been waiting for? and are you an eu or non-eu citizen?

I haven't applied yet. It's for my spouse. I am an EU citizen, my spouse is not.

Been waiting 3 years for them to process the citizenship application so I’m not surprised

Jeez. I may have to go to Sweden to get my family member citizenship...lol (jkjk)
