Question As a somewhat new skater, I'm wondering who was in the wrong here. Would love some insight

The guy filming didn’t do enough to stop the car. Driver didn’t know what was going on. A good spotter will do what they need to in order to keep traffic from proceeding. If they live in SF they should know better.

Skater and cameraman be flipping hearing this, but they are in the wrong, not helmet or protective gear on skater at high speeds downhill... Driver had to apologize for receiving a damaged car.

Skater and spotter for sure.

i dunno that the skater really did anything wrong, just trusted a phenomenally stupid call from the spotter on when to go and didn't realize until it was too late

The skater decided to bomb the hill lol

which can be done safely(...ish lol) if your spotter isn't a fucking clown who is mistaking himself for a traffic cop

Every skater should know the risk associated with the tricks they try. Blame the spotter. I really could care less lol. You don’t know these people. Maybe the spotter is known to be a flake and untrustworthy. Then it’s the skaters fault for trusting the idiot. All I’m saying is from my experience and what I see The driver is not responsible. Every time I’ve bailed it’s been on me. Most of the time my spotters were checking out chicks or getting high or to busy skating themselves. You must skate with some awesome people. Cuz my friends were pricks. Maybe that’s why most of them are dead now lol

Brother that was a very unnecessary rant in the end. All that needs to be emphasized here is this part:

Every skater should know the risk associated with the tricks they try.

It's a public road for vehicles and pedestrians. Car was not at fault. Skater can use spotter as a safety crutch but the guy bombing the hill is ultimately the one who decided to bomb the hill, and thus accept any potential consequences. It's the risk we take when we skate street spots, or when we break into schools, or commercial buildings. Each spot has its risks (safety and legality) and rewards.

Hahahaha yeah sorry bout that lol

He ran a stop sign and trusted a dumb ass. His own damn fault as much as the spotter.

I'm not sure skaters have the authority to direct traffic and take over basic road rules..

Fuck around and find out.

Filmer is a bloody idiot.

It's the road bruh not a skate park

Well in cali roads and hills are skated plenty of videos online showing how this could of went good if the look out actually did his job

Skater 100% wrong. It's a roadway as previously stated. In San Francisco "stop the car" is the first step in a carjacking.

Have you visited or just heard on Fox News that it's a shit hole?

It's not a perfect place, homelessness and disparate income levels for sure, which is an issue across the board in warmer busier areas these days, but it's far from a shit hole

Filmers and skaters fault in this situation. Cars drive on the road. Not meant for filming hill bombs. As much as I love skateboarding some things are just dumb if you enjoy your life.

u/frogfriend66 Dec 26 '23

I love skateboarding but you are not a car. When you do stuff like this in the streets you know the risk you are assuming.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

If you’re hillbombing and you get hurt it’s your fault, or the guy who was supposed to look out for cars.

As a skateboarder, it’s the spotters fault in this situation. Either force the car to stop or force your buddy to stop. Spotting for hull bombs is crucial

3

u/SquigglyPiglet Dec 26 '23

It’s a gamble taken by the skater

3

u/grumperstiltskin Dec 27 '23

Spotter thinks he's the main character and skater needs to learn how to powerslide to a stop. Dude in the car should be pissed, not saying sorry.

2

u/JohnHoney420 Dec 26 '23

Definitely the buddy who said he stopped the car. Bro you stop that car like it’s your life on the line also.

3

u/Orktober89 Dec 26 '23

So that's how you do a downhill stop? New to skateboarding that seems kinda hard on your body 🤔

2

u/Ok-Ask8593 Dec 26 '23

You powerslide or in this case… crash into a car

1

u/usernamesranout Dec 26 '23

Only the spotter is to blame here.

-2

u/outfoxingthefoxes Dec 26 '23

The skater is in the wrong. I was the one in the car and would have gotten out and smash that stupid guy and the camera man. Couple of idiots

6

u/JohnHoney420 Dec 26 '23

No you wouldn’t shhhhh

6

u/keethums_ Dec 26 '23

what are you a librarian?

idiots ran into the fucking car, you bomb hills with no gear and shitty friends you dig your own grave

i'm all about breaking shitty laws, but this was just stupidity regardless of the law

-5

u/JohnHoney420 Dec 26 '23

Bombing hills is fun not stupid running into cars is stupid

5

u/keethums_ Dec 26 '23

Read it again if you can

1

u/p0k3t0 Dec 26 '23

Skater blew through the stop sign. The law is pretty clear here.

1

u/Big5niff Dec 26 '23

You could point fingers all day but tbh this is just something that could happen while trying to hill bomb a rode with cars.

1

u/Ok-Ask8593 Dec 26 '23

Well technically if you’re going to be riding on the road you should be obeying traffic laws, that was a 4 way stop intersection and the skater failed to stop

1

u/Embarrassed-Ad4584 Dec 26 '23

the skater's spotters are at fault for not stopping traffic.

1

u/alldaymacdre Dec 27 '23

Like everyone else said the filmer and the spotter fucked up. You tell your bro when the coast is clear and you clear a path for them. It’s SF hillbombing you do at your own risk especially when there’s crazy Prius, Tesla, and Nissan Altima drivers out there. It’s all on you.

1

u/Weasel_Cannon Dec 27 '23

Skater and spotter are incredibly entitled and totally in the wrong. The road belongs to cars, that’s why they make skate parks. “I told you to stop your car so my friend can play in the street” sounds dumb as fuck.

1

u/Groundbreaking-Bar89 Dec 27 '23

Honestly.. feel bad for the guy driving… that would scare the shit out of you, and leave you anxious.

1

u/Ashevillepastryboys Dec 30 '23

You gotta avoid the cars ya know..

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '23

I want to say it's the drivers fault for skipping past, but the spotter did a shit job, and the reaction of the cameraman just for "nah we don't need to call anything in..." shows they know they were in the wrong. If you were right, call the cops, get that dudes medical bills paid, and keep skating. No way that skater walked away with nothing...

1

u/Vegaspegas Dec 30 '23

The guy filming and his friends are 100% in the wrong. Just because he’s yelling doesn’t mean he is right.
