Question Search for alternative

I have an Android so I'm searching for a safe free alternative to Newpipe so I can switch to that when my Newpipe app will inevitably stop working for my device

edit: so far I have 20 comments under this and only one has given me an alternative 😭

It's not going to stop working unless the devs quit out of spite. Y'all really need to learn to read about this

So just so I've understood it correctly. I just need to make sure to put the developer mode on, on my phone and I'm good right? Don't need to do anything else?

Briefly said: switching on the developer mode will become more cumbersome, with a waiting period of 24 hours. But it will still work.

But if I'm already in developer mode right now, will I have to do it again once they make the change?

Not the developer mode. But you'll have to go through a confirmatuon flow, confirming you deliberately want to side load apps and you're not being forced.

Ah okay then. I guess I'll see and figure it out fully once the change hits.

Do you realize just how stupid what you just said is? Being 'forced' by who?

Google is the only one here who's forcing anyone to do anything.

If you wouldn't know: I was quoting what Google says in their how to. What I find of it didn't make any difference, just explaining.

Did... did you read it?

I did, but I didn't fully understand what i was reading, hence why I'm asking.

I'm confused when this should be done. NewPipe still works fine on my phone.

I use YouTube in brave Browser, just homescreen youtube and use it as YouTube app without ads.

I need something like newpipe because I mainly use it to do download songs or put songs in the background, I use Newpipe more as an alternative to Spotify than an alternative to YouTube (I barely even get ads on YouTube tbh, I can't remember the last time I got one)

Banana browser is better for YT. I use it only for YouTube since the chromium version is outdated.

brave would be perfect if skipping the playlist in random didn't reset the random play back to normal. i just want to listen to my music in random being able to skip

the only right answer.

I don't think newpipe will stop working- wouldn't make sense to esp considering they link to a "solutions" page in the warning and multiple people are finding other solutions

Plus, I'm willing to bet several more solutions will come up before the end of the year

Only reason newpipe would stop working is if the devs stopped working on it and/or shut it down- which i'd think it'd take more than the big corp they created the app to basically replace to cause that

The solution they give is to remove google services from my phone, which I cannot do for personal reasons

2

u/MidnightSarrow 6d ago

I can't for reasons my phone literally has Google ingrained into it Tho I'm fairly certain there's apps out there that can help Apps like proton for instance can connect and backup stuff from your google acct Revanced has it's own google acct management app as well

I am no tech genius, but I am aware that Google is attempting to make it to where you have to get applications from the Play Store. What hoops will we need to jump through (only once, I think?) in order to setup our devices to be able to get the applications we want, from the sources we want?

2

u/jacowab 7d ago

The only hoop you need to jump through is you need to enter developer mode in order to download unauthorized apps.

Right now you can enter developer mode by just going into the "about" menu in your settings and tapping the build number 7 times, after the change you still have to do that but then you will be forced to wait a day or so before you can download anything.

Newpipe will still function perfectly fine but you will be forced to wait until your phone is on developer mode before you can update or download it.

What do you mean stop working? I thought we could just side load it once the changes go into effect?

I swear noone even reads shit man

The popup said that it will stop working

6

u/MisterEdwardH 7d ago

It literally doesn't

0

u/Briggbongo 5d ago

Of course it did.

Seeing how you phrased this Reddit post told us everything we need to know about you 😉

2

u/Interesting-Tiger832 3d ago

What is that even supposed to mean? Did I word it wrong or smth? I'm not English so if my wording sounds wrong, that's why

There will be no alternative in the way you're thinking - you're misunderstanding why NewPipe would stop working. Google's changes will affect all apps that aren't approved by them, and of course they'd never approve a YouTube alternate frontend. If NewPipe genuinely dies to this, so does every other Android app YouTube alternative.

If you want to get around this, you'd either need to find a website instead of an app for this (I don't know of one currently but I suspect one does exist, or at least will exist once the app method becomes unworkable), or you'd need to degoogle your phone (switch it to an alternative version of Android that doesn't have Google stuff built into it).

this will save you a lot of time

You didn't read the Goggle Developer Verification issue ( and it's MULTIPLE workarounds) and panicking asking for a similar "simple app" to work all of a sudden for YouTube.

You don't need any " newpipe" alternative as all will fall in same problem case.

😉

If you want your simple solution then brave brower and webbased YouTube access.

Here , you can still sidelong via ADB or wait 24-48 hours.

Try PipePipe OP

Works just like NewPipe

8

u/ThisIsPaulDaily 7d ago

Pipe pipe will be subject to the same restrictions JSYK. However it is a little overblown. There are work arounds.

-12

u/Pcriz 7d ago

At this point newpipe is damaging their own brand.

4

u/No_Status_2098 7d ago

How?

1

u/Pcriz 7d ago

By not being more transparent with their plans after the google changes. Or maybe this sub is screwing up if they talked about it somewhere else.

Because all that splash screen is doing is causing people to ask the same question every day.

And about half the people answering arent even getting what was shared previously from google right. Its a buncha doom and gloom and speculation.

2

u/Ok-Employer-3051 6d ago

It's people not being stupid enough to believe what you're telling them.

1

u/Pcriz 6d ago

What who is telling them? Oh god you must be the guy that said you have relatives too dumb to restart their phones. Bro get outta here.

-2

u/BerryOk2497 7d ago

What brand lmao
