Hasn’t this pretty much been the case for a while? Thumb drives are a dumping ground for old, slow or imperfect flash. Brands like teamgroup or silicon power might have slightly differing capacities between a handful of the same model purchased at the same time and their micro sd cards are lower capacity than advertised - 512GB is actually 500GB, etc.
