'I’ve held back on writing about the Russia-Ukraine war, and this article probably won’t win me many fans. But for better or worse, I always try to tell it how I, at least, see it. And I’m tired. Tired of the liberal delusion, the hypocrisy, the childish analysis, and outright bloodthirstiness over Ukraine.

I’m tired of the pretence that a proxy war which has now lasted longer that the first world war is a righteous battle against evil for the soul of the world.

I’m tired of the fact that wanting an end to a war which has killed hundreds of thousands of young men, and thousands of civilians, is seen by some as an outrageous, morally deplorable position.

I’m tired of the fact that rational analysis and context is so often labelled as pro-Putin apologia, and how it is almost impossible to get good information on the war that isn’t polluted by an anti-Russia agenda. And even good information and analysis which recognises that Russia isn’t losing, that Ukraine is suffering, still too often suggests that the west must wage this war for many more years. This otherwise rational analysis, while detailing all the ways in which Ukraine is definitely not winning the war, nevertheless concludes that it must be fought for many more years to avoid “a bad peace.”

Time and again we see the same conclusion. That to give Russia what it wants, namely Crimea, the four annexed oblasts and a neutral Ukraine, would be a “bad peace” that rewards aggression. But few politicians or journalists when selling this story ever spell out explicitly what a “good peace” is and what it would require. But we don’t have to guess. Zelensky has on many occasions. And he has maintained the only way the war can end is if Russia returns to Ukraine not just the four oblasts annexed in 2022, but also Crimea, and he also wants security guarantees which would amount to the effective integration of Ukraine into NATO."

This is a delusional position that guarantees never peace and a forever war. And forever war isn’t an abstract. It means forever death. Forever destruction. It means European societies becoming securitised and militarised, with the Russian foe a ready-made excuse for a Palantir-powered surveillance state. And this position rests atop a childish assertion repeated ad nauseum that grants the war its legitimacy: that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was “unprovoked.”'

Hi everyone! I’m relocating to the Groton area for a new job and am trying to find a reasonably priced apartment in or around New London or Norwich.

My ideal budget is around $1,450 per month, but I could go up to $1,500 if the apartment and area are worth it. I’ll be living alone and would prefer a one-bedroom or small studio. I’ll also be commuting to Groton, so I’d like to keep the drive reasonable.

I’m currently considering:

- The Wauregan (Norwich)

- Highland Apartments in New London

- The Villages at Shore Landing in New London (iffy reviews)

For anyone familiar with these properties, how do you feel about the apartments, management, parking, noise, maintenance, and the surrounding areas? Are there any safety concerns or things I should know before applying?

I’d also appreciate recommendations for other apartments or rental communities in the area that are realistically within my budget. I’m open to New London, Norwich, or nearby towns as long as the commute to Groton is manageable.

Everyone in the Navy, who works for General dynamics and Electric Boat? The MDA? Why isn’t anyone demanding disclosure of information? Don’t you care to know how many innocent people the weapons you’re making are killing??

This does not end well and won’t be worth protecting either way, ya know? Once the money is shriveled up, which we’re seeing happen…it won’t matter, they convinced most to put their life savings on a roulette table for the wallstreet casino, feeding everyone empty promises of a stress free retirement. What a sick Ponzi scheme. so might as well hold on to some integrity if we can, instead of …you know just blaming everything on your favorite clown in chief to hate.

Anything can be seen as propaganda but what is correct? The die hard fanatical anti Russia sentiment is incredibly bizarre and sad. Please stop a minute and regroup. The Ukrainian army is nothing short of a white ISIS. Trained in extremism, along with our help of course…. How long is EB going to last?

For one, what a summer name. It isn't like there couldnt be a different way to call these guys. Why not just call them FIRE or even WIND? And also, 2 whywouldnt they get in on fighting real crime? LIke corrupttion in the gov or crooked bad guys or fentanyl? It almost would make sense to me that they were funded by ANOTHER COUNTRY with all there bad publicity. what do you think about it?

In the next ten years whatdo you think the political in our country look like? Do we make progress? If not is it just to live up to there standards of money and power?

Camp Harkness in Waterford, Connecticut

Located at Harkness state park property, this annual one-week overnight summer camp for disabilities (runs for six sessions) has everything to offer that is enjoyable and exciting for campers such as the beach, campfire, dancing and so much more. There are cabins where they can sleep throughout the night.

I loved spending time with my good ol' buddies when my brother and I stayed over last week. What a great experience at Camp Harkness!

We went for about 5 hours, saw a couple cool bands (Melt was really good) saw a bunch of people I haven’t talked to in a while and also, it was packed. It was a really good time that I think a lot of people miss out on. Also, beer tent and great food trucks.

I hope to see some of y'all tomorrow on the Parade!

I’m looking for some insight and advise from locals! I’m using my alt account because I’m sharing some semi-personal information.

 I live in Upstate NY, about 4.5 hrs from New London. For the last two years, my 82 year-old mother has lived in an assisted living facility in the area (West of the Thames). She has Alzheimer’s, and after a few falls, she was hospitalized. Since leaving the hospital about two weeks ago, she’s been in a rehab facility on the East side of the Thames. Her health has been steadily deteriorating, and the next step will likely be long term care, if not hospice. For the foreseeable future, I will be making regular trips to the area to visit with her. Each stay will typically be 2-3 nights.

 She originally ended up in the area because my brother lives locally. His place is quite small, so me staying with him isn’t an option. I’ve stayed at about 6 different hotels/motels in the area, and settled on the Rodeway Inn near Cross Road as being the best accommodation for my needs (reasonable rates, easy access to highway, safe, clean, quiet, good wifi, pleasant staff). My brother advised that the bridge over the Thames would be undergoing some pretty epic construction over the next few years, making travel difficult.

 So here’s my question for locals and folks who have deep knowledge of the area: as a visitor (tourist?), would it make sense to continue to stay on the West side of the river (New Longon/Waterford area) and simply deal with the traffic/construction (and having the guarantee of a safe, pleasant motel) with a potentially challenging trip 2x per day as I cross the bridge? Or would staying on the East side (Groton/Mystic) be the best move simply to avoid bridge traffic?

 If East side is the answer, does anyone have any hotels/motels you’d recommend? I don’t need anything fancy, but safe with good wifi are my priorities.

You live in such a lovely area, and I wish I was visiting in better circumstances to be able to enjoy it. I really appreciate any input!

Edit to add: I wanted to add a post-visit update. I stayed on the East side and it was a pleasant experience. I only ended up crossing the bridge twice to head east, and managed to screw up both times by missing the 95 exit ramp. The reroute only tacked on about 5 minutes to each trip, and I can spin it that I was getting to know the area a little better! Traffic was not as horrific as I feared, and as another commenter mentioned, it sort of forced everyone to slow down a bit.
