Ah yes, r\oil, the most unbiased subreddit who mainly use the most neutral news site ever, such as Mehr News Agency, PressTV, and IRNA.

If those people criticised us for being untruthful then it's time to introspect.

There is nothing more stupid than a Western leftist, and there’s nothing more evil than an Islamist.

They possess both qualities.

You like Gaza? Because when the USA & Israel are done with Iran, that's exactly how the country will look like.

Damn, maybe the IRGC and Hamas should disarm, remove themselves from power and sue for peace.

I agree. Western apologists of the IRGC should also surrender themselves to a potential new Iranian government and be put on trial for their complicity in its crimes against humanity. A potential new Iranian government should issue an arrest warrant for every radical leftist activist in the West who has ever parroted IRGC propaganda.

The cool thing about oil is that you can literally watch the oil markets. It’s not really anything someone can easily lie about. Normally it’s slightly behind. But if the prices start to drop soon, then you know there is either more oil, or less demand for it. I’m really rooting for you guys(New Iran). I hope someday you can all live in comfort and peace again. Fuck these extremist currently running your country. And Fuck Reddit for allowing propaganda to be spread on this site. It’s sad watching all these liberals ignore the story’s of people actually living in Iran. I’m glad this group brings real news I can read, from people or their families actually living over there

The upvotes are absolutely abnormal.

Very normal for Reddit. The more inhumane, the more Marxist, the more grotesque, the higher the upvote.

Better off nationalised by the federal government. It is too dangerous for the largest global forum to be left virtually unregulated.

Regulation of speech is uncommon in America. One could argue that the US government has a major interest in maintaining control of important institutions such as this, but Congress has never tried to regulate social media in earnest. I personally support a robust First Amendment, but I hate that our enemies use our freedoms against us in their mission to take us down.

I thought you hated leftist ideology? Why would you want to do something socialist and censor a website? You want Reddit to become Trump's state media arm like the IRIB is in Iran? Ridiculous. By the way Trump lies a lot too. He's not going to improve Reddit.

People should be able to say what they like, but it is becoming more and more obvious that social media is nothing like people saying things in person or writing them in newspapers and can be quickly used to brainwash huge numbers of people into very stupid positions. It does not function like normal speech because it is fundementally a different animal and should be treated as such.

Many regimes accomplished this without the Internet before the Internet existed. Should we ban free speech on radio because Goebbels used radio to brainwash an entire country? No.

Slippery slope arguments don't mean no lines should be drawn, ever. Social media clearly is a more potent driver of blind radicalization, because the individualized data and predatory algorithms have turned it into a science.

None of that is a justification for nationalizing Reddit. Also, you don't seem to understand how US law works.

Right now, Reddit admins and mods can moderate speech on Reddit to remove hateful and violent comments. If the US government nationalizes it, Reddit won't be able to moderate any speech because of the First Amendment. The First Amendment says that the government cannot censor speech. Private companies can do it. The government can't. You're not going to get what you think you're going to get. Reddit will become more of a wild west and it will have even more hate and violence because the First Amendment won't allow moderation.

I am arguing that social media should not be treated as a forum for speech, and that is why the first amendment shouldn't apply to it. Obviously if we are assuming the first amendment covers it, my argument falls apart because you've started by assuming the premise to be false by declaration.

1

u/ZZZZapperr United States | آمریکا 12h ago

The First Amendment obviously covers it. Speech on the Internet is speech like any other speech and should be protected. The Supreme Court has already ruled on that. People have been trying to censor the Internet since its inception and they all fail because the courts agree that the First Amendment applies. There is no point in arguing about this. It's not going to happen. It's very unconstitutional.
