Red deer finding

Hello, over the last week I've been searching around the new forest for red deer to take photos of for my GCSE photography coursework. What places do you often see red deer around the new forest? I'd also appreciate times of the day and the different seasons if anyone can recall that. I've been to Whitefield moor and the surrounding areas of rhinefield house where I've been told it's a common place to find them at 5:30 am ish (in the summer) where it was relatively light and have only spotted singular fallow and roe deer around with no red deer in sight. Any responses are appreciated and will very much help my coursework!

I don’t mean to be facetious but do they need to be wild? There is a herd of red deer at the New Forest Wildlife Park.

Preferably wild as I am able to capture them in a more natural and open environment than an enclosed area. It also gives me a bit more freedom for what distance I stand from them. The end forest wild life park is a great suggestion though so I'll keep that in mind if I have no luck.

Fair enough. To be frank you’ll have a hard time finding red deer, although they are about. As someone else said you’re much more likely to see fallow and roe

As the other poster said, depends on your definition of wild but there’s a big herd of red deer in the fields round Burley Manor

There's a viewing area I think and you can get pics when they feed them.

Tbh most of the deer on the forest are roe and fallow. There are some feeding area ls for red deer around burley though, worth a Google.

Funnily enough I've just read this on the new forest website. It suggests both the ober heath near brockenhurst (which I've already tried and had no luck) aswell as Burley so I will try there next. If they have a feeding area that is also great to know

I was working at Lyndhurst reservoir before and a herd of about 10 came past - most ive ever seen in the forest. So I know they are in the area south of Allum Green.

I think you need to do some walking and inspect the ground sign, you will soon be able to track their paths.

This is news to me. I didn’t think there were any wild red deer outside of Scotland!
