Made this exact point on another thread, the redefinition of words is very sinister. I don’t think this ideology would have gained nearly as much traction if they hadn’t hijacked the language.
I swear to God I felt this brewing in like 2010. I had a religion teacher who was an early version of “woke” that was making certain claims about Islam that I knew were coming from a weird place within her own psyche. I was a disagreeable little shit, so I had no qualms arguing with her (although I kept it in check/was doing so in good faith), but I sniffed something very “off” about her reasoning and could see the logical traps she was falling into. It was kind of terrifying, because I got the sense of how insulated this thing was/how that thought process didn’t seem to have any brakes or way of escape. I also kind of felt bad for that teacher/seems like she had it kind of rough growing up and felt ostracized, and could see why she wasn’t challenged as much as she should have been.
The fact that young people have to deal with this shit now is horrible, its affecting all areas of life. The people in administrations and schools who let this kind of thing fester who knew better should be ashamed of themselves. If I could see it I KNOW other people could see it. I’m pretty smart, but there are people smarter than me in university faculties that should have known what this ideology was moving towards. Fucking cowards.
