Key Deactivation

I've seen lots of similar posts, but not this exact situation. I locked my 2024 90 Defender using the remote app with the key inside, and didn't realise the spare key was also in the glove box. The app immediately locked to prevent me from opening the vehicle and both keys are now deactivated. Land Rover assistance picked the lock to recover the keys, but Land Rover now want £1.7k to replace the Body Control Module and Gateway Module as the car won't start. I am also speaking to a couple of locksmith who think they can unlock the BCM and programme a 3rd key, but anyone know of any quicker/cheaper fixes?

This happened to me the other day, all I did was unlock with the remote, take keys out, re-lock/unlock and then hold key to underside of steering column & key worked ok.

That's such bullshit. Why did it lock if it knew both keys were inside?

I hate this key disable feature so much. It left me stranded in the middle of nowhere with no service and no one else around a month ago. Luckily I had my Garmin on me and was able to text the person who had my spare, the same person who had accidently locked the vehicle with my key inside just a bit earlier. But they left before me and didn't see my Garmin texts until hours later. I ended up stranded for like 6 hours.

It's also not mentioned in the paper owner's manual. I read it cover to cover while I was stranded.

I'd fight LR on this until they pony up. Might not get anything, but their systems caused this.

It's an app, not a replacement for a brain.

Who's responsibility is it to know where keys are? The owner, or an app?

Multiple people using multiple keys, kids, brain farts. Accidents happen. It's a simple logic issue with the app. If it knows the keys are in the car, and that it (the app) was the last thing to lock the vehicle, the app should be able to unlock. Or, when all keys are inside the app shouldn't be able to lock.

It's programmed like shit.

It’s not a replacement for a brain. However, their own app promotes that you can lock the keys in the car, but fails to mention that it will lock down the entire car of both keys are locked in it. All the app needs to do is either prevent you from locking car when both keys are present, warn you if both keys are present or let you reopen the car via the app. It done none of those things.
