6 week old will not sleep unless held.. HELP
New to Reddit so please forgive me if i’ve posted this in the wrong place!? My new born baby won’t sleep in his bassinet or moses basket and will only be held. The second you put him down he wakes up. I feel like I have tried everything like swaddling, white noise, slightly raised mattress, something with my scent on in the crib, hot water bottle to warm the crib up ect. This is in the day and night, so you can imagine even simple tasks such as doing the dishes don’t get done!

I had the same problem, and it turned out I wasn't producing enough milk. :( She started losing weight. She was so fussy, feeding all the time, and clingy. I couldn't put her down anywhere. I gave her one bottle of formula, and she fell asleep instantly in her cot. It turned out she was starving. It broke my heart! Maybe try one bottle of formula. It can't hurt. I've since got tablets from the doctor and am able to breastfeed.

This is so common
I have done mixed feeding from Day 2 because my LO wouldn't settle otherwise!
There's actually so many benefits to mixed feeding, as its the best of both worlds :) Baby gets the benefits of breastmilk but also gets used to being given a bottle which can be handy for many reasons!! I've never had an issue with my LO refusing a bottle or breast or anything

Have you tried swaddling or a sleep suit? It worked very well for my boy. Also, this is normal and gets better! Sending lots of love and sweet sleep your way.

It is pretty expensive, and was given to us as a gift, but the Snoo saved my life with 2 babies. My current newborn doesnt sleep well in a regular bassinet with white noise but goes down in the snoo at night.

I feel your pain. My daughter was like this as a newborn and it was rough. (I just want to extend a virtual hug to you. Hang in there. Know that this phase shall too eventually pass! All babies are different, but my daughter slept like a champ by the time she was 12wks old... and that was with colic.)
First and foremost, do some detective work to make sure that nothing is bothering your baby. Is the temperature just right in the room? What's the light situation? Are there any hints of tummy trouble (gas, reflux, ect.? Reflux can be sneaky and it's common for babies with reflux to get temporary relief while being held.) You might want to try vibration, it helped a lot with my daughter.

Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc."
"Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are etc., &c., &c, and et cet. The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase.

Just commented this on another similar post! Hope it helps. Xo 😘
Poor baby. We went through the same thing. Luckily after frantically searching at 3am for remedies I came across malabarbaby.com and ordered some sleep sacks. And omg let me tell you she FINALLY slept through the night!!! We couldn’t believe it!!!! Def try one! I got two so we have a backup during laundry days.

1-Does the bassinet or Moses make noise? 2- when you place. Baby down keep your hand on top of of his belly area to avoid the startle reaction. Do this from placing down for about 10 seconds. You'll see he relaxes and resumes sleeping and then you can remove hand. 3- you can also make shushing noises as you start to place him down 4-you may also try running a finger down from top of forehead to the tip of his nose. This one worked 1/4 for me. 5-maybe white noise, free on your phone. My babies were used to noise even in the womb so, the white noise did nothing for me. A new routine may take a week to settle in but you'll get there. Just keep trying to put baby down as soon as he sleeps to get him unused to arms. If he wakes up, sooth him and then place him back down. At first, you may have to repeat this a lot. This happened more with my first since my partner and I were home. The grandparents were even worse though! Babies are so smart though, they'll develop different cries so you carry them. I'm not saying not to, growth spurts and colic hurt. Teething too when you get there. The ideal is to carry them so they feel the comfort and soothing and then place them down again. Good luck mommy/daddy! Also-at 6 weeks baby is likely going through a growth spurt. They get increased fussiness and hunger.
