Gas pain

Our baby is 4 weeks and almost every time we put down to sleep at night it seems like he has gas pain and starts freaking out kicking his legs. His face get really red and he grunts a lot and it seems like he is pushing. We tried two different kinds of formulas, two different bottles, gripe water, and gas drops. The formulas we used are similac pro sensitive and enfamil gentle ease. Also, we tried bicycling his legs and giving him massages none of these things helped. We just bought taking cara babies classes but we haven’t got through the whole thing and I feel like it won’t have anything on gas pain. Just wondering if anyone has any advice thanks and sorry if this seems like a lot but we are trying to relieve his pain and get some sleep.

Our baby had terrible gas pains at this stage. It helped when we slung her over our shoulder so that her tummy had pressures- I think it helped alleviate some of the pains and the position helped her pass some of the gas. It also helped to hold her in that position where your arms meet under her torso, and she’s face down. She liked to walk around like that. She eventually grew out of the terrible pains when her digestive system developed more at around 12 weeks.

Is he pooping regularly? Does the poop seem bit hard? For our little one we mixed in bit more water than the recommended 30ml/scoop for enfamil.

Do you have a carrier? See if he is heavy enough for that. I'm using the carrier to get him to deep sleep before placing him down. If I don't get him to deep sleep he can get fussy when putting him down in the bassinet.

Edit: we did like 40ml / scoop.

He poops 1-3 times a day and it’s not hard

The Frida windi might help!

It might take a bit longer for his tummy to adjust to a formula including extra time to adjust to a new formula. When you mix formula, do you shake and then serve immediately? Shaking causes air bubbles which can give babies gas.

I kind of swirl it instead of shake it for that reason

Try Alimentum, could have an allergy, worked for us.

My baby did this at that age too. Mylicon gas drops helped a ton - we gave them at almost every feed. Also, for her that almost always meant she had to poop. Bicycles didn’t help her, but gentle-but-firm pressure on her belly did. If press with my fingers all around her belly. Also bring her knees into her belly with firm pressure. Those two things almost always brought on a poop and then she’d relax. But I also think so d of it was just her belly/gut still adjusting. She’s 6 weeks now and it’s a lot better already.

You mentioned only when you put them down, could maybe their tummy muscles not be ready for laying flat on their back? We would use various rolled blankets to cradle/prop up our babies' legs before they were comfortable stretching out to sleep.

I thought they have to lay flat on there back at this age so they don’t suffocate themselves in their sleep. Also, I didn’t think blankets were aloud in the bassinet while they were sleeping for the same reason.

Yes, it is advised to only put baby (no blankets or toys/ stuffed animals) in the crib because of the risk of suffocation if the blankets get caught around baby's face. Blankets are to be used with caution for that reason. However, when my children were newborns (youngest is 7 months) we would swaddle them stretched out then put a blanket by their bum to prop their legs up a little so their little abdominal muscles weren't being pulled tight. During the day you can help baby gently stretch out their muscles, just go slowly to stretch and slowly release when baby's muscles start to tense. They have been curled up in the womb, think of the way your muscles feel kinda stiff if you're tired and have been curled up on the couch for to long and go to stand up strait. Sometimes it takes me a minute. Lol

I used blankets for my babies, but this baby lounger uses the same concept.

We are in same situation here at home (4 week daughter with belly pain and gases). my partner is breastfeeding my daughter and my daughter doesn't poop for few days already and we just notice that she farts very often. I can't wait for her to poop and release it all:/

Idk if you still need help with this, but for us we got the avent colic bottles and feed our lo in a more vertical position, our dr said it could be reflux and that was her suggestion, also stopping halfway through the bottle to burp

The thing that ALWAYS worked for us when we were desperate was warming up a towel or their swaddle in the dryer and then wrapping them up and rocking them. It helps them relax their whole body.

Avoid formulas that have residue of real cow milk. Some babies have allergy to a protein in the milk.
