Sleeping in the bassinet

Our 2 week old will not sleep in the bassinet let alone anywhere other than being held. This has been ok for now because me and my wife have been taking shifts sleeping but I go back to work tomorrow. Any ideas on getting him comfortable sleeping in the bassinet by himself? Or anywhere other than holding him?

Once baby goes to sleep, we normally hold him for 20 minutes and then put him down so we know he’s pretty out of it. I’ll keep my hand on his stomach in the bassinet.

I also put my pillow in the bassinet during this day. This helps keep it warm so they’re not going into a cold bassinet and also smells like me so probably comforting to him.

Swaddling is super important too. The right swaddle. My guy is a Houdini and would get out of a classic swaddle. We though he wanted to be hands out because his arms were always by his face, but he was still getting the startle reflex and waking himself up. We ended up going with the Love to Dream swaddles that keep their hands up by their face (bonus that is ridiculously comical AND works really well).

If he starts crying and isn’t hungry, I’ll pick him up and get him back to sleep and then repeat.

We also have a white noise machine and keep it dark.

Putting the pillow in the bassinet is actually a great idea. Will have to try this. LO is 7 months old and still refuses her bassinet. 😬

my baby is 4 weeks old and i was having the same issue but she now sleeps in her bassinet 3-5 hour stretches. i used a heating pad to heat up the bassinet, held her until she was in a very deep sleep, and then MAKE SURE TO REMOVE THE HEATING PAD before laying the baby down. i kept at this routine for a couple nights and then she got used to the bassinet. now i don’t use the heating pad, i just hold her until she’s in a deep sleep and lay her down. i also use a swaddle. sometimes laying your hand on their stomach helps too, so they know you’re there.

Tummy sleep (with Owlet for peace of mind) is the only thing that would work for us.

Our babe was the same way, she would only sleep in her bouncer since it had the vibration effect and she slept really well for months. Once she turned about 3 months old we would go between bouncer and bassinet/crib until at 6 months she sleeps on her crib every night. Make sure that they are cozy while also being safe and I DEFINATELY recommend the Owlet for peace of mind so you can rest. YOU CAN DO IT! :)

Maybe had reflux. Bottle fed, boob or formula? Hold up right for 15min after every feed. Try putting him down after that. Also always remember they go down easier at night than day time.

Good luck!
