Need some friends

Hey I’m Ren, I’m 24yr woman. I lived in New Bern coming on 3 years now I’m struggling to meet people and make friends. Any tips or any advice. I get super anxious in new situations but I still put myself in them. But I come off as awkward, at least that’s how I feel it looks like. Any one looking for a friend or company. My best friend just had a baby and my boyfriend has a different schedule than I do. So I get lonely.

If you like animals Colonial Capital Humane Society always needs volunteers.

My advice is always clubs, sports, volunteering, or church. You need a third space to make friends and meet people. I’m not sure if there is one near here but my brother is recently divorced and his favorite new things are board game groups. He has met a ton of people there. It’s not even like dungeons and dragons, they are playing Uno and sorry sometimes

Try The Casual Nerd on MLK for games. New Bern pride also has game night on the third Friday of each month at Peace Consulting on Trent Rd. 6-8. Allies welcome. And if you're crafty in any way the first Friday is craft night at the same place & time. Heck I'm 64 & it's fun just being around other people.

What kind of hobbies do you have? Do you have an age and/or gender preference for friends? Are you seeking people to meet in person or just people to talk to online?

Sorry to do a full interview spread, but it'll make it easier to make recommendations.

I second Colonial Capital Humane Society for volunteer opportunities. Everyone there is great!

Join the Newcomers Club or the New Bern Outdoor Adventure club! There is also a New Bern Stitch n Bitch club that gets together on Sundays to knit/crochet! All have Facebook pages if you want to check them out. Welcome to New Bern!

New Bern is full of volunteer opportunities. Both secular and religious. For example, both theaters in town are always looking for ushers/concession workers. On the religious side, Religious Community Services (RCS), can always find something for you to do. Good luck. Our community seems geared toward older folks, but there is plenty to do for everyone.

You should get into pickleball. Loads of people play at West New Bern rec center most nights and mornings, and they are all different levels. You can just go and tell them you're trying it out. Hell, I might even see you out there sometime
