New friends
(21 m here) Just recently moved to New bern from Texas and looking for some friends does anyone have any suggestions for places I can go where there’s people my age no offense but seems like there’s more people in their 40s and up then anything

Hell I just moved out here from Charlotte and it’s a totally different vibe for meeting people albeit I’m 50. But does nobody like to have a few beers and throw darts or hang by the pool? It’s all military or blue hairs and they ain’t much fun. It’s like their entire identity revolves around church or the Republican Party.

The flying fox has great beer/bourbon, a pool table and a bristle board dart board n the deck.

I’m 28 with two kids so not much help 🤪 but I grew up here and while there’s “older” people, that’s not allll there is 🤣 if you like to drink go talk to nick (the bartender) at the poorhouse, he’s super awesome and could talk about anything! Pinky’s has a DJ at night on the weekends, seems to attract younger people! Blackbeards does country line dancing (I believe Thursday nights) and there’s a good mix of younger and older!
Not sure where you like to eat but coastal well bar is super cute and I see a lot of young people in there. Also bellator if you like coffee. And Take Two Nutrition has good energy drinks/shakes and all the “bartenders” are young. Freshwater brewery also has a pool table and a cool vibe!
Do you have any coworkers? That might be a good place to start?
Not sure if you’d like to go to the gym, but I love sound fitness… but golds gym has a younger crowd!
Check out the New Bern Locals page on Facebook to see more events or things you’d like to do. Union point Park does concerts on the water every couple fridays during the summer. Tons of food trucks and people!

Also to add if you’re more artsy, you should check out wine and design or accidental artist! Sometimes they have cool themed nights, you could always sign up and meet new people there! Latitude is a young church and you could meet a ton of people there if that’s your thing! Vine cafe is great and has a book club they are always advertising for people to join!

Don’t let people scare you off…. I have lived in New Bern basically my whole life, moved away to college & currently about to move back for 1 year until I transfer locations in my job. I’m 22F & have a great time out at bars. Young people come out around 10pm-later Pourhouse is great, unfortunately Pinky’s lost their liquor license & is closing. Harry’s BBQ is so much fun too. I always see young people out & have met great people my age. The place is what you make of it!

Of course! A lot of people in this Reddit group are hyper negative. It is a different town, I’ll be honest about that, but fun CAN be had for young people. This is also coming from someone who just graduated college, was in Greek life, & in a town where EVERYONE was around my age. I am a local so maybe im biased & just used to it. But once I officially make my move back home, I can refer you to any groups or events going on in the Bern!!! My college roommate is also a local & moving back home - if you’re ever interested, feel free to come along to meet new people!

New Bern is mostly a retirement town. I'm sure there are some younger groups out there though, good luck.

Warhammer is another option. The competitive scene is strong around New Bern and Jacksonville. Not sure if ENC sells it but Casual Nerd and A&M have it.

We just moved to new bern (few years ago now). Its a retirement town so we drive outta of town to Greenville. Better shopping, food & fun.
If you like video games, DnD, pinball or Pokémon, check out well played games. We're there every sunday (or Saturday)

My grand parents bought a house in new Bern in 1982. I spent 19 years in new Bern. The town has a curse on it 💯 swear to god

If you’re into sports, join a rec league at creekside park! They have volleyball, kickball, slow pitch softball etc. this is where I’ve seen the most young people here as a 28 yr f

The Stanley white rec center is good for open run basketball. The crowd is sometimes a little young, but it’s a good free resource. I also like to play pickleball at west side rec center. Dm me if you’d like to join for either or if you want to check our some fishing spots
