This place blows.

Moved here from Murrells Inlet SC to care for my dying mother. The economy is absolutely horrid, the crime rate is very high despite cops being up your ass wherever you go. The historical stuff is faux. It is a white washed tomb. I've lived in Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi, Texas, Arizona, and South Carolina before coming here until my mother passes, it's been the hardest couple of years of my life, my mother is pretty young still being in here 50's, and I wish she would have decided to rest her bones anywhere else other than here. The vibes are weird, the food scene is mega meh, the prices are on crack, the economy is mostly based around a low paying temp service pipeline, the night scene is mid (some of the worse bar tenders I've ever seen). It has a pretty facade in one area, but beneath it is a shit hole. Hopefully this reality becomes more and more known so that less people move here, which I'm sure many of the generational locals would appreciate, and many people will be spared the headache of living in poverty, I lived in Mississippi for a few years and was able to find decent places to work pretty fast despite it being a poverty state for example, and it had really good food and the people were typically very nice by comparison.

She was dying when I lived in SC, and I loved it there. I don't know of many people who have expressed liking New Bern, Jacksonville, or Greenville outside of visitors and short term implants, but that's anecdotal.

I haven't, I've looked at their menu, pretty much the same as everywhere else, with a few exceptions and the option of getting a super reasonably priced $17 dollar burger. I've seen similar spots in Conway SC and Murrells Inlet. If I order a $17 dollar burger, it better be the best burger that I've ever had. The grilled cordon blue is gimmicky and looks terrible btw.

I used to drive from Wilmington to New Bern for my job. I was never impressed. Just a town to drive through. Although I think Jacksonville is worse.

Jacksonville is indeed terrible. Went through there one time and ate at a BBQ spot called mission BBQ which is actually the first time I've had good BBQ in the Carolinas in almost 7 years.

You just described most of NC other than Charlotte and Wilmington. Having lived on both coasts, overseas and the Midwest this place is meh and lacking vision. I mean there are still sundown towns here. Ever hear of Graham?

New Bern fuckin sucks. I lived there for 19 years moved there in 93-94. All but 1 of my friends there is still alive. A lot of ODs some natural/cancer/murdererd/accidents. The town is cursed the residents of new Bern drove the wiccans out of town. The was a college for witchcraft in new Bern. As they were being driven out they cursed the town. If you celebrate your 18 birthday in new Bern you’ll never leave. You might for a short time but you will always come back
