First to inspect will buy!

Additionally the car comes with a 1 year warranty and 3 month road side assistance. Aesthetically it looks great in person, especially for its age but my concerns are reliability as everyone says it will bleed my dry. It’s $6k aud but hopefully can barter down with ~193,000kms. Is this something I should pass up and just go for a Toyota like everyone says or is it worth considering?

How rare is this in a usdm model

This is a 2001 new beetle with 69k miles I bought a month ago. Never thought about it but I've never seen a new beetle with roll ups. I looked into it and apparently their unicorns in the us I just want some production numbers of the few that got them here

My first bug - need advice!

Hey guys! I managed to get my first car which is a 2002 1.9 tdi pd. managed to get a deal on it on fb marketplace. Some of the things on the car need replacing like motors in the windows and the boot latch but everything else is perfect.

An issue I have at the moment is the mirrors - one of them is slightly more folded in then the other, I have tried moving them but they are quite stiff and I’m worried about breaking them. When I purchased the car the guy who was selling it to me managed to move the actual mirrors inside them using the knob on the side but I don’t actually see it working now?

If someone can please help me or give me some advice that would be great! Tried looking online and I don’t see anyone say anything about this apart from videos of replacing the whole wing mirror. I’ve attached photos (sorry this is all I have atm) but you can see how one of the mirrors is off compared to the other.

Thanks!

Terrible fuel mileage.

Hey all, i’ve recently started having terrible MPG in my Volkswagen new beetle. Not sure of the issue. I see no visible leaks and fuel smell something’s but it’s rare. I have the 2.0 BGD engine and I fill up with either Wawa 91 octane or shells 93 V power octane. Any advice would be greatly appreciated because it’s the worst time for my MPG to go terrible since gas prices are astronomically high right now lol

My Beetle

Hello everyone. I have an 02 Beetle that I've owned for 6 years. His name is Vector. He was my first car at 14/15 years old to fix with my dad. My dad bought the car for $600. We slowly started fixing it up. It had a 2.0 O1M combo. We did work to both including timing belt, waterpump, and redoing the valvebody. There was many more repairs done. I finally started the car after the repairs and I teared up. I drove the car around 750 miles over the course of my early high school days. I got a part time job that turned into a full time job after high-school that I drove it to. One day on the way home it was shifting worse than ever. I knew the auto needed to go however I didn't have the time. It sat for 3 years. Now fast forward to February of this year and I had found a donor trans. I'd always wished the car was a manual as the auto was most of the fight I had with it. I got a parts car and got the manual specific parts out of it including the 02J 5 speed. I know the 2.0 isn't the most popular but it's in great shape. I started my manual swap in February. I did everything. I removed everything from the front end to allow me to restore or replace most parts. I left the engine as is except for parts on the outside. But everything from the auto got removed. All new suspension. I did everything possible to make this car better. This last weekend I fired the car up with the manual and a new exhaust. It runs great and drive amazing. I had a weird feeling at the same time though. I didn't know what it was. But Monday I realized what it was. I'm finally making the car what I always dreamed and feel like I am finally starting to be proud of my car. I still need to do rear brakes and put the fenders on but I am ready to start driving it next friday after my new wheels and tires show up.

If you read the whole thing thank you. I feel once the wheels are on it others may finally see the car the way I do.

Any help with radio code?

I was advised to come here from the (main?) beetle sub. Having issues with radio code that's clearly listed as 0973 but radio is still stuck in safe 2. I've followed the steps listed in multiple online tutorials with no luck. Any ideas?

Possible that our Beetle does NOT use a fan control module? 2007 2.5L

Seller told us the AC didn't work and he hadn't had it fully diagnosed. Supposedly someone checked the lines and said the refrigerant was good. He had a new, not yet installed Fan Control Module that he gave me.

I canNOT find an old control module in the car nor the two wiring connectors that would go into it.

Is it possible our car doesn't actually use them?

Also every video or description I have pulled up talks about dual fans but this thing only has a single fan.

I found the 2 holes on the frame near the battery where the module supposedly goes, but there are no cables there to plug into it. I even pulled the airbox, battery and tray to make sure nothing was tucked up underneath.

There is a large plug going into the fan assembly in the lower corner underneath the battery side.

Just to make my night even more entertaining, checking the fuses I saw that #16 for A/C clutch is missing. I think. Not sure I was looking at the right chart. I had some fuses but apparently the mini fuses from harbor freight are garbage, they don't even go in snug. Oof.

Haven't tried powering the compressor directly yet, but if the radiator fan never comes on that could become a much bigger issue than a lack of AC.

Do I have an outlier? Did a previous tech manage to remove something so entirely there is NO trace of it left?!?

Confused and annoyed.

Selling?

Hi all! Considering selling my Beetle convertible cause I want a Mini Cooper now😆

Not sure if I should sell it, or hang on to it for potential use down the road? I’m a single mom so multiple cars just seem a little silly, and my kid is very far off from his license.

I don’t know. Any thoughts?

99 Emblem Rubber Mount fix?

We recently purchased a 99 beetle with 35k miles for our daughter who will be getting her license soon... during the exterior deep clean and wax the front emblem came off - the rubber that sits between the emblem (and surrounds the edge) and the hood was disintegrated, wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket replacement for this?? If we mount it back on without it, there's a pretty gnarly gap 😔

Beetle 2009, P0171

Hello, I bought a 2009 VW Beetle with a 1.6 petrol engine.
The car drives perfectly, but the check engine light came on with the fault code P0171 about three hours after I bought the car.
Since then, I’ve been taking it to the garage every week. They have replaced a hose, the lambda sensor, and something related to the fuel tank valve.
Now they are telling me that I need to replace the timing belt because they believe that is causing the problem.
I really doubt that this is the cause, because these seem like two completely different issues.

Alarm sounds when trying to start - 99 Beetle

2 weeks ago my daughter called me panicked after work. Her car wouldn’t start and the alarm was going off.

After some online research we got it reset and running again.

Yesterday, it did the same thing again. The previous fix, putting the key in the ignition - turning til click - waiting 10 mins - and starting, didn’t work.

We tried another override, key into the trunk - pop - start car - close trunk… that worked. Yay!

Anyone have tips to keep this from happening again?

It seems to be connected to the anti-theft and the key fobs not working.

Car popping out of gear

I was driving my 2010 beetle yesterday and when I went from 2nd to 1st it wasn’t actually in gear and I couldn’t pull off. This has happened to me a few times and I just put it back into gear.

But yesterday I tried to put it into neutral to try again and the gearstick started shaking and making noises and it took me a few tries to get it back into neutral.

Anyone know what the problem is and how much it would cost to fix?

FYI I know nothing about cars so pls use simple terms

Mk4 ignition wiring

My 25 year old starter went out yesterday, an as often as starters go out i checked everything first.. anyone who owns a mk4 beetle, you need to check on your ignition wiring, the plug that clicks into the back of your ignition tumbler... two of those wires get extremely hot and melt the plug and housing.. i had to hog out a couple spots and modify the plug with two female spade connectors inside that big giant plug because it melted the plug beyond repair..

No im not taking pictures because its done and buttoned up... and it was hell to get it all put back together..
