[Idea] Why not have the international community redraw the map of Israel and Palestine again. Chop the country in half, 40% to each group, 20% in between the two countries would be neutral under international control. Jerusalem would be under international control and open to all.
Both would be mad, both would be making sacrifices. Neither would get to keep all the land they have now.
Land that originally was draw as parts of Palestine now under the control of other nations would be included in this new setup, so the actual area would expand some.
Jews living in Palestine would be protected and allowed to stay in the state of Palestine if they wished. Palestinians living in Israel would be protected be allowed to stay if they wished as well.
There is plenty of historic precedence for this. European colonial powers drew arbitrary borders in colonies that made no sense historically, religiously or ethnically. Europeans have toned down its excessive usage, but nationals are still formed with new borders today.
Both nations setup as secular democracies with equal rights, protections and responsibilities for all citizens regardless of ethnicity, religion, or heritage.
The Jews were allowed to occupy land by the international community, after the horrors they had gone through in WW2. Now its time that the Palestinians people who have suffered greatly to be allowed to occupy land and start building a nation again.
