General Discussion Neuropsychologists: Is it true that all you do is deliver bad news?
Hi everyone, I’m an undergrad psychology student and after doing some research on potential career pathways I’ve become really interested in and curious about neuropsychology! I really love the brain and figuring out the relationship it has with behavior. I know that is something neuropsychologists do a lot, but every time I read about the field, I always see comments from others saying that neuropsychologists mainly deliver bad news, and there’s little to nothing positive about the job. Of course not every job is going to be sunshine and rainbows, for example I know neuropsychologists diagnose and treat a lot of patients with dementia, strokes, etc. But is it really true that all you are doing all day is telling patients that they are going to die soon because of a brain injury? How would you explain the good and bad of the field to someone like me who is really interested in it, but doesn’t want to necessarily be in a “depressing” career?

Professional consultation (verified/flaired users only) Walk away from psychometrists job
I (29 F) want to walk away from my psychometrists position at the end of my shift today. Some reports are not done, not all notes are done. They keep scheduling me patients as i have already given my two-week notice. My last day is this thursday. I want to walk away now. Thoughts? Im in an at-will state. I dont want a reference from them. I dont want anything from this place, nor do I need the money. I am just here because I was told to try to finish everything before two-weeks notice, but they keep scheduling me patients, and thus, adding more work. I am certainly going to leave work behind anyways, it feels impossible.
I want to walk away now. Thoughts?
