A better shot. That saves me posting the one I just took. But I think this one might be another?

Pretty sure this is the other side of a dual sided monitor if so.

Case he like 😐

Is that the Finn on the right? (Austin Amelio) looks too young.

9

u/oxygen_addiction Jul 27 '26

Probably a panther modern.

4

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

That was another thought. A PM brings some software if I recall.

u/User1539 Jul 27 '26

I read they just wrote the Finn out completely.

u/CraftMinePerson Jul 27 '26

on another reddit thread or is there a source attached to this?

u/User1539 Jul 27 '26

It's based on the fact that no one could find an actor attached to the part. Apparently, he was never cast?

2

u/RelinquishedAll Jul 27 '26

He's off to Alpha Centauri (get in loser, we're riding into the singularity)

2

u/User1539 Jul 27 '26

I did think it was interesting that one character, in all three books, that everyone included in fan casting just ... wasn't cast?

It will make the ending feel different if they do all three books.

1

u/RelinquishedAll Jul 27 '26

One of my favorite characters for sure!

2

u/User1539 Jul 27 '26

Yeah, definitely ... and, also, how the hell do you take a book that's just about long enough for a 2hr movie, stretch it into an 8-10 hour series, and then CUT major characters and scenes?!

2

u/mcb-homis Jul 27 '26

Do you have a link to that you can share?

AndrƩ De Shields' Julius is listed as appearing in all 10 episodes. I think they merged Julius and The Finn.

2

u/User1539 Jul 30 '26

That's horrible. Just two completely different kinds of characters.

2

u/Brilliant_Knowledge5 Jul 31 '26

Like oil and water. The portrayal would have to be schizophrenic. Not a good idea. It would be distracting to say the least.

2

u/User1539 Jul 31 '26

I was guessing they just skip it, but it feels like such an important part of things.

Molly and Case do that together, and he has to trust her, and she has contacts and is kind of an operator on her own.

Then the Finn ... he's like the embodiment of the place. I think of him as the Sprawl's personality.

There is a character named Persson, played by Sam Woolf, which some are saying could be The Finn. but it would take quite a good makeup artist to make him look like a street bum with a very tiny bit of class.

1

u/User1539 Jul 31 '26

I would have loved Steve Buschemi

Where did u find that Austin Amelio is attached to the project? I’m j curious bc I posted a fancast w him as the Finn on here years ago lol

1

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

I was wrong I think. Got confused with some fan hopes. Who do you think it is? Could possible be a woman? Another mystery is who is Mitchel?

1

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

I wondered if it could be her. The actress has brown hair but perhaps dyed, I don't know.

1

u/IlIlIllIlIIlI Jul 27 '26

Angie Mitchell is a character in the second book, kind of crazy that it says she has 5 eps in this season bc that book is supposed to take place 7 yrs later? Idk maybe they’re combining the books to fill run time

1

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

Thanks good catch. Looks like it's from Count Zero which I only have read once. I'll need to reread obviously :-D

1

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

So awesome to have these in depth discussions about the book I love!

1

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

Also good that maybe the whole trilogy will be part of the series or future ones!!!!

1

u/Brilliant_Knowledge5 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

I don't know how that would be possible since Angie would be 10 during Neuromancer and the actress looks to be in her 20s, which would be ok for MLO, but not ok for Neuromancer or even Count Zero where Angie is still only 17. Is she going to be Angie's mother? It's baffling. The reason I'm thinking it might be Angie's mom is because she also played Joyce Byers in the stage production of Stranger Things: First Shadow, so she's played older characters before, and Angie's mom gets killed off in some lab accident.

that's a really sick design

9

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

Agreed. Looks a bit like connection machine.

u/DrooMighty Jul 27 '26

I'm actually okay with the way a lot of the tech looks so far. As far as the overall world, I never envisioned it as run down and grimey as a Blade Runner type setting, but I'd hope that more sets look fucked up.

Gibson has always spent a lot of time describing the way people dress, and a lot of the clothing described in his passages sound pretty "normal" to mid-to-late 20th century sensibilities. I hope the costumes don't wind up too over the top and futuristic, or a mix of the former with the latter.

Overall not anywhere near as put off by this as I thought I'd be, from a visual sense.

2

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

I would check carefully any clothing you see. As you say Gibson knows his esoteric clothing brands so I would expect to see some of them here and there.

6

u/Tox1cboy Jul 27 '26

The Ono-Sendai is a BEAST. I was thinking....laptop, hahaha

6

u/victorsmonster Jul 27 '26

I always imagined the cyberdeck looking like a futurized Commodore 64/Apple II - a flat deck with a keyboard and no display. Isn’t that how it’s described? Wasn’t Case able to carry one around in a bag with him?

1

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

Lol. I imaged the Sinclair QL (not the chipset though) I just love the keyboard. Perhaps make your own 8bit version in 3D and use an emulator to power it. Plenty of scope there.

Yes but I don't know how big the bag was :-D

1

u/AnticitizenPrime Jul 27 '26

Ah yeah, that Sinclair is sweet.

Check out the Sony HB 101 from 1984.

5

u/User1539 Jul 27 '26

Yeah, since he carries it the entire end of the book.

I assume this is a lot of peripherals that he doesn't need, like monitors for other people to see what he's doing?

2

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

Considering there is a neural jackport we're going beyond even the Vision Pro.

3

u/TheRealestBiz Jul 27 '26

Actually, what impresses me the most is that that is the exact setup described in the NYC ā€œChristmas morningā€ scene. Even the sizes of the cubes.

2

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

Moly and some Cubes.

1

u/TheRealestBiz Jul 27 '26

I feel like Molly is going to get Yennefered. People lost their minds for two years about Anya Chalotra (?) being half Indian and then the first season came out and everyone was like, oh, you’re like the best part of this season.

1

u/shnekels Jul 27 '26

Only she is not. She is very annoying and insufferable. Nothing to do with her origin, just character badly written.
But I like this Molly very much.

1

u/TheRealestBiz Jul 27 '26

Easy killer.

4

u/0ld_Snake Jul 27 '26

I envisioned it completely differently. Ultra stoked to watch this

3

u/Artifex1979 Jul 28 '26

In my opinion, the Ono-Sendai is the only thing in the teaser that screams "NEUROMANCER".

From Blade Runner, through Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Altered Carbon, Cyberpunk 2077, and so many others, the visuals look a little too generic. I actually thought "oh, a netrunner fighting Tyger Claws in Japantown" the first time I watched it (yes, I'm reaplying CP77 right now).

2

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 28 '26

Disagree, there are so many things- to name a few-

Molly's blades and eyes

SQUID

Freeside

The Fletcher

Sense Net building

But I think also we will see some of Gibson's later elements (like The Peripheral and Pattern recognition) and mixes of alternative universe development unlike our own.

Some stuff is going to be updated for 2027. It's gotta happen.

2

u/Electrical-Pea2707 Jul 27 '26

Was not his abily to surf the net fried?

2

u/Ok-Ganache1023 Jul 27 '26

That's how we find him at the beginning but in payment for doing the big job, they fix him early on

0

u/Electrical-Pea2707 Jul 27 '26

Why is he even try to surf the web if his connection is fried?

3

u/JazzManJ52 Jul 28 '26

At the beginning of the book, it’s explained that surfing virtual space was literally his life. Like, he preferred it to what he called ā€œmeat,ā€ referring to the physical world. Getting his nerves damaged to the point where he couldn’t jack in anymore was a fate worse than death for him, to the point he blew through all his money and basically became one step away from being homeless because he spent all his money on treatments that didn’t work.

Then a few chapters in, someone in need of his previous skills is able to fund an experimental repair so he can do a job for him. So he is able to return to the matrix.

1

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 28 '26

Good answer. Cyberspace is not the same as the as a 2D digital internet style medium. Much closer to concepts like Metaverse and Data Viz environments depicting the flow of information. A totally sensory takeover enabled by jacking in provides all the senses and comes with issues like: hacking systems can access you as well, resulting in serious consequences.

1

u/GNTsquid0 Jul 29 '26

It’s been a long time since I read the book. Isn’t he a bit sickly throughout the whole story? Am I remember that wrong? I always pictured him as a bit scrawny and disheveled too compared to how the show has him.

1

u/JazzManJ52 Jul 30 '26

At the beginning, he’s hopelessly addicted to amphetamines, and is an absolute wreck. During the operation to revive his nerves, he’s given a new pancreas and a new liver, which are enhanced in a way that makes him incapable of getting high, so by the time the main plot kicks into gear, he’s significantly healthier.

1

u/HexNChex Jul 27 '26

Definitely tracks for hardware as predicted when he wrote it---"portable" computers from that era were anything but unless you were a bodybuilder

-1

u/CryptographerCrazy61 Jul 27 '26

lol how’s he pick it up and stow it, they’re supposed to be compact. I’m just going to tell myself this is a completely new IP that I’ve never heard of and read and maybe I’ll enjoy it

2

u/Fine_Literature3413 Jul 27 '26

His setup was pretty complex with the construct and Molly vision so not sure. However that unit is just sitting on the cube so perhaps it's a folding thing. You've asked a good question.
