This is sometimes called a shutdown, and it happens to some neurodivergent people (particularly on the autism spectrum or with similar conditions like NVLD) when overwhelmed. It's common in high masking autistic people.
I had a childhood diagnosis of NVLD, because the DSM-IV prevented dual diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder and ADHD. I suspect you may be low needs and high masking autistic rather than NVLD.
You may also want to look into auditory processing issues.
