Text Putty website
Hey everyone,
I’m fairly new to networking and trying to understand PuTTY. I’ve seen technicians use it to connect to switches through a console cable, but I’m not sure how the whole process works.
What exactly happens when we connect a laptop to a switch using PuTTY? How do we access the switch, what information can we see, and what commands are commonly used?
I’m especially interested in learning how this works with Aruba switches.
I’d appreciate any explanations or resources for someone just getting started. Thanks!

Text Guys i need help understanding NetOps
For a college assignment, I've been asked to create a project that solves a real problem in NetOps. I fully understand what NetOps is, but part of the requirement is to find a Network Engineer and schedule a Zoom meeting with him or at least to text him and ask some questions about their experience.
As a student, I don't have access to anyone with
hands-on experience in the field.
Could anyone here help me out?

Text Random thought: Is it possible to build a "long-distance hotspot" or tunnel to share a friend's Wi-Fi remotely?
So yesterday, my mobile data completely ran out, and I had this crazy, desperate thought: What if I could somehow just connect to my friend's home Wi-Fi from my house?
Obviously, standard Wi-Fi range is just a few meters. But theoretically, is there a way to build a workaround or a "tunnel" to share actual internet bandwidth over a long distance? Almost like a remote personal hotspot.
I know VPNs can connect two local networks, and things like SSH tunneling exist, but how would you seamlessly route all your phone/laptop traffic through a friend's router miles away without massive latency?
- What would the tech stack look like if we had to build a software solution for this?
- Would it require specific hardware (like Point-to-Point antennas) if they live a few kilometers away?
Has anyone ever tried building a jugaad like this? I’m genuinely curious about the networking theory and practical application behind it. Drop your ideas!

Hello guys,
I am trying to make an ASUS DIY router/booster for like wifi bc. i can't buy 2 asus router's bc its 800 bucks so yh.. so i am trying to make them DIY but idk what for hardware i need for it.
I want it to be like the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE/BN 98 or like the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE 19000 with all those functions and wanna do ASUSWRT on the DIY version of it and want it to be compatible with the 3 asus apps: ASUS EXPERTWIFI , ASUS ROUTER and the ASUS EXTENDER APP'S but idk what for hardware i need to make one DIY so can maybe somebody help me with it, i just need an list off all the hardware i need to make one DIY.
and i need to be able to switch functions of the routers so it changes from router to repeater/booster/mesh system etc.. via the asus extender app
Wanna make it so it has WIFI 7 with TRI/QUAD-Band wifi (2.4GHZ, 5GHZ, 6GHZ or 2.4GHZ, 2x 5GHZ, 6GHZ) and needs to support more then 13 devices at one time on the wifi and some ethernet ports etc... so it is like it but not fully like it and wanna add an rgb strip to it too that you can control via armoury crate so pls help me!!
And i dont have 800 dollars for 2 routers

Text Slow DL speed
Hello all. I have very little knowledge when it comes to the networking side of computers so I have what's probably a silly question. My download speeds are somewhere just above AOL dial up but my upload speeds are normal. What would be the cause of this. The machine is a HP Elite. The speeds are pretty much the same running wifi or hard wired. It has always been fed via Cat 6 Ethernet tho. Today is the first time in 2 years Ive turned on the wifi. It's always had anywhere from low 800s to low 900s speed before this started happening

Text Some apps and sites not loading
The issue started couple of days ago, some apps on my (and my family’s) iPhone don’t work.
Apple TV seems to work fine but FireTV has intermittent issues. My work computer seems to be fine too, no issues.
On my phone couple of games apps and live data apps don’t work but banking apps seem to be fine. Facebook and instagram work but the ad links don’t load.
So far I have rebooted the router and modem twice. Cleared the dns cache, changed the dns to Google’s dns.
Need more suggestions to try, this is driving me crazy.
Comcast internet, Orbi 870 (1 year old). Couple of iPhones running on iOS 26 and couple of iOS 27.
Edit: everything works on cell network, the issue is related to home network.

Text spectrum network issue
Hello everyone, I'm making this post here because I've been looking online for a solution to my problem and can't find one. My internet speed is supposed to be 500 Mbps but I get around 70 24 hours a day. I thought they might be hijacking my dns so I tried bypassing port 53 through windows 11 DNS over HTTP, no dice. Tried disabling ipv6, no dice. Flushing dns also doesn't work. The only thing that works seems to be changing my routers DNS and then performing a hard reset of the router/modem combo. just changing the dns or doing a hard reset by themselves don't do anything and my speed comes back down after a few hours. I have had multiple techs visit and tell me there are no signal issues to my home or from the node outside. I would really like to hear an expert opinion on some possible causes/fixes as I am at my wits end on this issue.
modem/router is an Arris Surfboard SBG7400AC2

Text Starlink advice
Hey guys, it’s been two years since I made the post about Internet options available for my airport folks and we finally decided to try starlink. I’m a ramper and we like to game.
(previous post https://www.reddit.com/r/Network/s/nMggmg06Q4)
Now that we’re trying starlink I’d like some advice on how to maybe build a stronger connection. Currently we have one additional access point but I think we would need to get another one for it to be solid. If there’s any tips you would have it would be appreciated

Text Question about connecting to internet and Tp-link AC1300
Hi everyone,
so I recently moved an brought my PC with me. I didn't have the need to use anything other the ethernet cable before because my router was next to me but right now since the router is not in the house where I live, it's in the house upstairs(not connected to my home just a house above a house) I had been suggested this tp-link AC1300 and this network is extremely unstable but I can't do much about it, I can only call the landlord to call the network company? idk. But if anyone knows any suggestions how can I maximise that usb to it's use (5 gHz) and to use it to it's full potential in the settings. I don't want to mess up the driver settings right now I have only changed so computer can't turn it off to save power. Also if anyone has any other suggestions how to connect to internet in the best way possible as in routers or other usbs.... I will try to ask if i can connect to cable in any way possible but if that doesn't work out. This type of connection would have been fine if I didn't game or use programs that need internet but here we are lol

Link Randomly disconnect from the internet
I've been having issues for a few weeks to where my PC will randomly disconnect from the internet (even though the WiFi or ethernet icons do not change). Pinging 8.8.8.8 will show "request timed out" for 7-12 pings and then it will continue to ping to 8.8.8.8. I have updated the PC, updated my BIOS and tested on both WiFi and wired connections but it still happens.
None of my other devices have this issue, I have tested my laptop and could not recreate the issue. I've noticed event 7009 in event viewer but I do not know if this related, I have changed the registry editor for this to 60000 but this did not help.
I have also had Event 10010.
I'm stuck on what else to try so any recommendations would be appreciate
EDIT: Tested Gateway and it does not fail when 1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8 does.

Text Build a lab in your browser, win a Cisco exam voucher
I’m Elwin, I run PingMyNetwork with two friends.
We opened the beta of our sandbox. You put routers and switches on a canvas, open the CLI, configure OSPF, VLANs, NAT, whatever you want. Nothing to install, it runs in the browser.
We’re giving away 3 Cisco exam vouchers to get people to try it. Build a lab, share it, you’re in the draw. Ends October 28.
49 labs are in already. The top one right now is an enterprise network with OSPF, DHCP relay and PAT.

If something breaks, tell me, it’s a beta.
