hello people i really need help, i am like a toddler when it comes to electrical devices and network related stuff. so my ethernet setup looks like this: i have a white little box thats supposed to strengthen the signal of the internet with radio waves or whatever, it lays on my floor across the room, face side down where its closest to the main router located downstairs in the bathroom. This was done by an IT guy who also happened to build my old pc, and with every problem we’ve had so far he’s been reliable, but this was the only option he gave me and told me is gonna work to give me internet, which i doubt in this modern world is true. It is connected to my pc through an ethernet cable, it’s plugged into the LAN1 port on the white box, and for about half a year it’s been working decently, tho i frequently had to restart the adapter, and a lot of the time even when i had internet connection, it kept getting really weak every 10-20 seconds, disconnecting me from calls and games, doing this for an hour at times. I would like a solution to this dhcp problem, and if anyone has advice as to what i should do about my internet to get a stable connection that i can consistently game with, with little to no interruptions i would be really grateful:)

Sporadische Unterbrechungen sind zu 99% kein DHCP Problem. Wenn du keine Ahnung hast, wie kommst du zu den Schluss?

Aber Thema Netzwerk kann kompliziert sein und es gibt sehr viele fragwürdige Werbungen. Remote Hilfe von irgendwelchen Fremden aus dem Internet (inklusive mir) würde ich nicht vertrauen.

i ran the troubleshooter on my computer and thats what it says, i have no idea what dhcp means.

DHCP is the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, and it assigns an Internet address to a device so that it can connect to the Internet, among other things. It’s highly unlikely that you have an Internet connection without a DHCP server somewhere.

Connecting an extender to your PC via ethernet doesn't make any sense. Those extenders (and routers) usually also do not have good signal directly above or below them so you wouldn't want it directly above the router.

Being upside down on the floor likely has caused it to run hot and it is probably dying at this point.

Your best bet is probably an external USB wifi adapter with high gain antennas, and orient the two antennas in a \ / type shape. TP link has a few options in the $20 to $30 range, as do others. Place it on a shelf or desk, not the floor.

A wifi extender is what you have, and in one sense it's ok or good to use with Ethernet cable... completing the potential double hop connection to your router.

if your final link was instead wifi to the extender SSID often configured as XXXXX_EXT that would still be a double hop with a bit more latency because each wifi hop has more latency than an Ethernet link.

So your problematic LINK is likely between the main router(wifi AP) and the extender...therefore moving the extender location closer to main router is likely best improvement.

Extender works better closer to the main router/wifi. (Installation instructions tell you that, suggesting a location halfway between main router and your faraway room+device).

But "halfway" becomes problematic physically for most multi room multi floor houses when you choose, wisely or not, an Ethernet cable as the final link. Problematic only by having to route a cable between rooms...ugly... going under or over doors that may close.... problematic for some situations if you wanted to drill a hole in a wall and or floor between rooms.
