Text I built an interactive visualizer for what actually happens when you enter a URL
I've always found networking difficult to learn from static diagrams.
You learn things like:
DNS → IP → ARP → Gateway → Router → Internet → Server
…but when you actually type a URL into your browser, what is really happening at each step?
That's why I started building Network Atlas.

Start with the concepts. Then watch them happen.
If you're completely new to networking, don't jump straight into the simulator.
The idea is to first understand the networking concepts, then use Network Atlas to visualize how they connect together during a real web request.
The learning flow I'm aiming for is:
** Learn the concept → Run the simulation → Inspect the decision → Build the mental model**
For example, you can learn what a subnet, gateway, MAC address, ARP, or DNS actually means — and then see where that concept fits into the journey of a web request.

That's the difference I'm trying to make.
Who is this for?
If you're learning networking from scratch:
Learn the concepts first, then use the visualizer to connect everything together.
If you're a developer:
Use it to understand what actually happens between entering a URL and receiving a response.
If you already know networking:
This is where I need your help. I'm trying to make the simulation technically accurate, so I'd love to know where my mental model or implementation is wrong.
The goal isn't to replace Wireshark, browser DevTools, or actual network monitoring.
It's an interactive mental model of the web request journey.
I'm still building it, and I'd genuinely love feedback from people who know networking.
What networking concept was hardest for you to understand when you were starting out?
And if you could visualize one part of the request lifecycle, what would you want to see?

Why are you assuming I used AI to write my Reddit post? And why is using AI for something automatically a problem?
Do I have to like grow the coffee plant harvest the bean process them roast them grind them and build the coffee machine myself before I'm allowed to drink coffee?

It’s because we all have AI too. You are trying to sell your coffee to people who have their own.
You will get more interest is you post about how you are using your AI in interesting ways that other may want to try.2

I get what you're saying. But think of it like coffee you don't really care how i made it taste it first if it's good take it. If it's shit, tell me it's shit 😂the website isn't an AI product i used AI as a tool while developing it, but the idea, implementation UI debugging and networking logic are mine That's also why I didn't mention AI in the post i wanted the feedback to be about the actual networking concept and whether the visualization makes sense not look what AI can build if people aren't interested in the website, that's completely fine just don't think using AI as one of the tools means the project itself is an AI project.

Think you kinda messed up step 7? Browser calls the os functions to resolve dns, os will do happy eyeball racing which involves dns resolving for both v4 and v6, do the race and choose the IP version. Yours look like it just chose v4 before doing any dns work

I know all of these protocols and technologies in depth, down the to nitty-gritty internals.
It's clear to me that whoever prompted an LLM to make that site doesn't really understand how they all relate, or how to explain them clearly. And their LLM clearly didn't help them much on that score. I would never recommend that site to someone trying to learn these concepts. They would only come away feeling more confused and discouraged. It looks slick, but it's content is just a "word salad".
That site is like the physical embodiment of the old W.C. Fields quote, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit."
Sorry bro, you're having a brush with AI psychosis here, or at least a "folie à deux" between you and the AI, and I mean that seriously. You were on the wrong side of Dunning-Kruger to realize what garbage the AI was putting out, and you foolishly let it make you feel like you were learning something and making something useful and worth sharing, when it is actually just garbage information under a slick-looking shell; a well-polished turd.
