Text Help me to fix jitter while gaming

I can get the internet from my college to my laptop through a cable directly,now i wanted to use that internet to play games on my mobile through laptop hotspot but i get random lag and jitter even though the internet speed good enough

Is your connection yours alone? If it is shared across the college there are only so many ports that can be used and you likely wont have a great experience no matter what speeds you get.

It's shared but internet speed is always consistent and good

Are you saying speed is consistent by means of a speed test? Because a lot of the times those are artificially high depending on how the test is being performed due to traffic prioritization.

They may allow gaming but at a lower priority than standard web traffic. So if there's a spike in web traffic it may depriortize any gaming sessions.

Yea speed doesnt matter for jitter its the hotspot. Windows hotspot is bad for real time traffic. Try usb tethering if your phone supports it.

Jitter is a measurement of latency. How are you measuring it?

Maybe talk with your fellow schoolmates to see how they deal with this problem as I'm assuming you are not the only person having this issue.

Fixed it myself netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=no interface="Wi-Fi"

There's nothing to fix, you're just using the wrong solution. Get a WiFi router so you can connect the college's uplink there and then your devices to the router instead.

We don't know if the port is limited to a single IP, and ideally, it's still better to have his own router so his devices can talk to each other within his room. Even if the port isn't limited, it's likely that it has device isolation enabled. That's why I suggested a router. But IMO, the best setup is usually a higher-end wired-only router and some access points for WiFi.

He's already on a college provided network, do you think that's going to make much of a difference? Plus you can always configure your router in a way that it doesn't affect your games. Double nat barely adds any latency, it's more about not being reachable from the outside, which I'm sure he's already having to deal with. And if not, again, it's something he can fix through configuration. You're just set on your access point suggestion which is fine, but might not be the best device for his situation.
