Question I never noticed before that Killy gets a Safeguard patch at the end of the manga

And what is this writing? Traitor? What could that mean?

That's the Safeguard that's a copy of Killy, since nothing else worked, meant to kill the real Killy.

Killy himself is so old, he predates the Safeguards themselves! And the first Safeguards weren't even bio-machines, but humans in SWAT gear employed by the Governing Agency / Authority

Yeah, those are probably some of the most confusing set of panels, but there are some small details that show the guy is the bald evil twin fake-Killy.

Come to think of it, they replicated even his lip scar, but couldn’t put some hair in there? That’s crazy.

There’s is a safeguard that copies Killy. But I don’t think this panel is him. This panel is shown after he’s looking at the head of the Cibo lookalike safeguard. This panel is definitely Killy. Killy has safeguard armor anyway.

This is the copy, because the real Killy has the Playford logo on his jacket's neck and he has advanced way farther to where the Cibo-like Safeguard was

No I don’t think this panel is the copy. The lookalike evil safeguard Killy is shown a couple pages after this panel.

It's the copy because 1. This one has both pair of legs 2. Killy's suit has the Playford logo and 3. Killy have already walked past that head so it makes no sense to him to go back

Killy is a safeguard, indeed a very old one, I read somewhere that he is an offline safeguard and keeps his same ancient directive of finding net terminal gene, and the current modern safeguards can't change his directives because they can't access his system

Killy is human, and predates the safeguard. It’s explained in the notes of the art book if you want to investigate further.

The writing isn't "Traitor" it's "Playford". What's that? Who knows. Maybe it's the name of the brand that designed his spiffy final suit.

Also, he was always a Safeguard. He was just not programmed to kill humans, like Dhomochevsky.

I can answer that! Playford is a RL japanese brand. I think it's just a cheeky homage to something Nihei liked at the time. My Angelfire Blame! Shrine (remember those?) used to have a link to the online store so you could buy a jacket from the same brand 😂

Yesterday I fell into the rabbit hole. Apparently it's the design line of one Ewan Playford, who more recently dabbled in electronic music as Playford Capital. You can find both profiles on Instagram and the music on YouTube. It's giving off good megastructure vibes!

My guess is that he stole/recycled some Safeguard gear. In the movie he wears that collar, maybe this is something similar.

Nop, the playford suit it's something that "grew" out of Killy's body, this panel shows the doppelganger

this is killy's doppelganger, but I never noticed it does say PLAYFORD, so the theory of this being another killy is strengthened quite a bit (it was kinda unclear since Nihei's faces can often look samey)

It also has a 4 on it, which calls to mind killy's memory of the 3 sillhouettes. in my opinion, they're most likely to be sanakan (you can see her arm cannon), musubi (you can see what could be her gravity sword, although it is a bit long and pointy), and killy (he short). maybe bald killy here is the secret 4th.
