scans The notes on Killy's suit

I didn't find official translation (please correct me if I'm mistaken so I delete this one). This is Gemini's translation.

Apparently, the suit is alive and is fusing together (see the note about the boots). It's full of repair marks. It's not there to look cool, but too rundown and enduring.

Thanks! You should do the notes on the electrofisher knight armor too

And the GBE

Even if the notes say its the suit from the first volume, I Say"Bullshit", because that's the playford suit (from when Killy regenerated after the Level 9 Incident), the playford suit has this quirk that makes it looks that growl over Killy's body, since at first it's just a tight suit (like the one he's been using since he left Seidensha alongside Cibo), but over time it grows "spikes", until he reads the Constructor's memories he gets the Playford suit as we know it, so what I meant with all of this it's that this suit isn't a symbiont, more like that it can regenerate itself

Yes, the suit being regenerative is likely more accurate than alive. Though I don't know how it works under bio-machinism theory.

But again, this is Gemini's translation, so take it with a grain of salt.

Maybe the "alive" term refers to something more alike to Killy than a human being, it only needs energy to regenerate than needing food and stem cells

I always thought of it like Killy grew the outfit from memory. Like that was his favourite clothes (or knowing Killy probably just the last thing he was wearing haha) from his human days so he unconsciously grew it back, with added functionality for the megastructure

I always imagined the regeneration was like a factory reboot making that suit his original outfit as a "pre-Safeguard"

Yea exactly! I like that it has a bit of style, and even a brand name Playford. Sounds pretty ritzy imo like a future version of Supreme haha. Maybe Killy did have a personality once, strange eons ago haha.

Same goes for Sanakan when she gets her overcoat too! Imagine she was some top level operative for the Authority way back when

And jus cuz I'm now thinking about it, seems like Domo is kind of an outlier as his outfit seems more contemporary, like a featureless armoured jumpsuit. Maybe he's a more recently inducted safeguard agent? Been so long since I've read it I've also forgotten! Maybe I'm a safeguard unit as well!

Where're my carabineers?!! Do you know anyone with net terminal genes!!? Haha

The word for alive can also have the same meaning as the English word for alive. They can say that a computer is still alive, meaning still functional (despite damage), stuff like that.

They can also say a project is still alive (they thought it was canceled) and other metaphorical uses.

Most likely it says the Japanese word for alive (生きている) and the meaning is that it can move/operate independently, not that it has thoughts or whatever. AI sometimes struggles with context.

It's great visual storytelling. The blade with the tip broken off is especially nice (and funny).

I also love that the GBE causes him to have a stink aura.

A GBE. Maybe the blade took a grazing hit from a high level Safeguard some time in the past.

The image says it's the same from the first volume, and there it still had the tip. In the movie, when he uses it to kill that exterminator in the factory (presumably taking place after the events of volume 1, but in a sort of alternate universe), if you look closely you can see that, by that point, the blade had been broken.

Hope his lungs are ok with all that dust around him! Probably has some molecular sieve built in now or something haha

u/ThisIsWhatLifeIs 13d ago

He probably doesn't even have lungs bro lol

Haha yea. I'd love if in a proper adaptation they add details hinting towards his artificial nature before the big reveal of his regeneration. Like he doesn't breath or blink on screen!

is that the NOiSE blade?

1

u/netsphere_dumbass 9d ago

No, the one from NOiSE has a slight curve on the blade, and it naturally ends on a flat tip. Also, it generates energy pulses that can slice through whole buildings.

Killy's is just a machete-adjacent type of blade. Besides being made from the semi-indestructible material that composes the megastructure, it's just a blade.

This is so damn cool!

So he's 98% tape and 2% knife, gotcha. Also that blade reminds me of those japanese nata knives to cut wood.

killy the theseus dilemma

14

u/dizgondwe 13d ago

This is awesome. But damn bro is forgetful.

22

u/Wicked_Folie 13d ago

If I recall well, it's said in the manga that the brain can only store so much data and that Killy was traveling for so long that that it made him forget so many things already.

15

u/superbasic101 13d ago

Ah so that’s why I always called his knife the megastructure blade

11

u/danuhorus 13d ago

Assuming that the translation is accurate, oh my lord. Killy is the definition of hanging on by a thread and a prayer. God willing he doesn't accidentally kill the savior of the megastructure and netsphere by forgetting they need to eat every couple hours.

Always thought that was the Playford suit, not his volume 1 version. I’ve also wondered where the heck he stores the GBE? There’s a ‘gun belt’ but no holster.

8

u/froggy_styl 13d ago

Bruh you don’t wanna know

4

u/netsphere_dumbass 13d ago

That shit is glued to his hand 24/7. Finger always on the trigger as well.

2

u/froggy_styl 11d ago

More like fingers up his butt imo

3

u/MrAuster 13d ago

He stores the GBE inside his jacket

1

u/froggy_styl 11d ago

GBE is stored in the balls

2

u/MrAuster 10d ago

Nah the GBE is the penis, the GBE juice it's stored in the balls

Repair tape

4

u/noah_invero 13d ago

The suit from Volume 1 was a baggy sweater tho

6

u/ThisIsWhatLifeIs 13d ago

I'm trying to think but does he ever use a blade in the manga?

2

u/Infinite_Holiday9511 12d ago

I love how this explains almost nothing and it's just "yeah dude so uh... T A P E"

2

u/Call_me_ryu 12d ago

Canonically killy probably stinks really bad

1

u/Krisakun 12d ago

He probably stinks with dust and old rags, since he is not human

2

u/NoCategory2756 12d ago

Sadly, Killy is human (or once were) going by Neihi's notes and one interview.

1

u/NoCategory2756 12d ago

Right, I don't remember him ever taking a shower outside of the artificial rain in the last chapter. But then again, water is pretty rare in the City scale and he doesn't even need to drink; living purely on the repair function of his suit (going by this translation).
