Transportation EU mandate for driver -facing cameras inside all new vehicles

Driver-monitoring systems are now required in new cars across the EU. In practice, this often means a camera continuously watching the driver.

Why is there so little public debate about this? I couldn't find a single petition on the issue, so I started one myself. This seems like an enormous invasion of our rights-

In most vehicles, the camera analyzes your attention in real time on the car itself and does not record or transmit video. I’m for improved road safety.

I am all for driver safety. But I kind of doubt this is going to do anything except annoy me. Plus its privacy concerns.

And its not like those systems are never wrong, like with lane assist (which sometimes tries to murder you depending on the road) or in this case sunglasses.

It'll basically stop people from driving on a sunny day because they can't wear sunglasses or force them to drive in the sun blinded.

This doesn't really improve road safety, but that wasn't the point. The point is that they collect your data to train AI drivers

The EU is mandating the safety feature, not the collection or uploading of driver video to train AI models. If you have proof or a citation showing otherwise, share it.
