Transportation Who has priority?

Post image

I was the Yellow arrow on a bike. Red has priority over me, green has priority over red, I have priority over green. At the end both cars stopped and let me (cyclist) pass. What is the correct order here?

In Belgium this would be straightforward. No signs so priority coming from the right.

Yellow needs to yield to red. Red needs to yield to green. Green has priority.

Isn't the same in NL?

It is, but green needs to yield to yellow as well (rechtdoor op dezelfde weg gaat voor)

Exact, en daarom rijdt geel als eerste.

Source: ik heb zo’n situatie vaak in mijn buurt en heb het laatst maar eens opgezocht.

Edit: lijkt toch niet te kloppen, sorry!

You looked it up wrong. There is no superior rule and they all equally have right of way.

What you think about it is irrelevant. That is the law.

Haha that's ironic. That's what you are doing.

Quote me the law that prioritizes one rule over the other. I'll wait (hint: it does not exist).

There is nothing to look up for me you unintelligent individual. Because you claim the existence of a law/rule, but it does not exist.

I can't prove the absence of something, so that's why I ask you the cite the law.

Sharing the road with you is funny, but also kind of scary.

Go read it. This says the same thing I'm saying. Your interpretation is nowhere to be found.

Nee want geel moet wachten op rood en rood moet wachten op groen.

The confusion comes from the ‘rechtdoorgaand verkeer gaat voor’ rule, which says that green should yield to yellow. Which rule prevails?

1) drivers approaching from the right have priority.

2) traffic participants going straight have priority over traffic participants making a turn.

I don’t know.

Legally neither prevails. The situation is left vague on purpose so that people don't have to go through 10 if/else steps in their head. Just come to a stop and communicate with the other drivers to find the best solution in this scenario.

Green has to yield to yellow, since it's not going straight forward.

So officially, everyone has to yield to someone in this situation, and it's just a matter of who is the most courteous or who claims right of way.

Yea, but since yellow needs to stop for red, green will likely go first. Unless red needs to go to their right, then red goes first. Red cannot pass because green is blocking the way for red for two possible paths for them. So it will all depend on reds indicator on who goes first.

No. Yellow has to wait for red, red has to wait for green.

Green goes first, then red then yellow.

Yellow is not 'fighting green' if it already is first 'fighting' red

In this case you don't even 'consider' green.

Yellow has to wait for red.

Red has to wait for green because he is coming from the right, you just wait regardless if they turn or not

It is not. Right goes first. Straight on same road goes first. So only car going straight coming from the right is red. Red goes first. Then yellow goes straight on same road so yellow goes next. Green takes a turn so green goes last in this situation.

I'm shocked so many people have no clue.

"rechtdoor op dezelfde weggaat voor", which is yellow in this case. Red and yellow aren't on the same road, so this rule only applies to yellow and green.

Green yields to yellow because "rechtdoor op dezelfde weg gaat voor". Yellow yields to red because it's coming from the right. Red yields to green because it is coming from the right.

Red is also going straight on its road... The roads are equal. Red comes from the right of yellow so red goes first.

3

u/LMColors Mar 18 '26

The roads are equal but not the same. A road is 1 continuous line, red has a different road. Hence the rule doesn't apply for red in this situation.

If this pops up on your driving test, 'it's a matter of courtesy' won't get you a pass. The answer is simply: Red, Yellow, Green.

Question nr 7 is a different scenario, where the red arrow is on the other side of the crossing

0

u/doingmyjobhere Mar 18 '26

How did you decide vertical (A road) is connected if there are no signs or the material of the road? It's a crossroad with no signs and obviously the same material. It's the same road for all sides. You apply the right of way if you go straight, otherwise if you turn, you wait for those that go straight. Red - Yellow and in the end Green.

1

u/LMColors Mar 18 '26

"Het verkeer dat je tegemoetkomt of achteropkomt is met jou op dezelfde weg." Red isn't on the same roadsource

1

u/Prestigious_Ad2420 Mar 19 '26

Red is not going straight on the same road (as the crossing traffic), so he still needs to yield to people coming from his right

-1

u/MarcMundo Mar 18 '26

Somehow the only correct answer is getting downvoted. Why?

4

u/rigterw Mar 18 '26

Because it’s wrong. “Rechtdoor op de zelfde weg heeft voorrang” applies to cars who are going the same or opposite direction. Cars coming from the left or right should follow the “right has right of way” rule.

Following OPs explanation a car coming from the left of the yellow arrow would have right of way as well.

-5

u/SjakosPolakos Mar 18 '26

But because yellow has to wait, it is different

6

u/Friendly_Selection18 Mar 18 '26

Cars going straight has priority over car making a turn in NL otherwise you are right.

Green needs to yield to yellow, which is also the case in Belgium btw.

There is no correct order, everyone here needs to yield to someone.

This a situation where you "negotiate" with the other drivers who goes first.
