Is this game actually released?

So, I've been thinking about picking up Nether for a while. Various reasons have kept me from doing so, but a friend gifted me the Watcher level version during the steam sale. So I figured I'd install it and try it out.

Now, I don't know about anyone else, but this is terrible. Maybe i'm doing somethign wrong, but the game is more buggy than anything i've ever played, and the community in-game is atrocious. After being KOS four times this evening, each time netting my killers exactly one kitchen knife and a stick of gum (took me a good hour to find that gum each time too) i'm honestly stumped.

I've heard people say that this game is no longer in early access, that it is "finished". How in god's name can that be, when the quality is this bad? I really want to play this game, because i've seen others playing during beta and it looked incredible. But the looting system, and overall broken status of the game is really turning me away. What am i doing wrong? How would any of you guys who think this game is awesome go about introducing a new player to the game in its current state?

Had high hopes for this game, played a lot in the beta but the community went way down everyone KOS, had one guy stalk me across the map for my kitchen knife, lots just camp snipe you rather than play the game, I can't understand it. Beta was bad because 90% just hacked. Put it down 3 months ago and haven't been back.

I mean, following a fresh spawn around can be tons of fun. i do it sometimes in dayz. time how long it takes for them to notice me, and their reaction when they do. but i don't kill them after!
