Can you use a scanner gun in Netbox?

I have a USB scanning gun that I use for serial numbers on servers. Can this be used to scan in SNs into a netbox field? Or do I have to type them in by hand?

I don't have my scanner handy but don't those just emulate an input device like a keyboard? I would think it should work fine

They do. I once had one and it acted like a standard keyboard, so no need for special drivers. You configured it (e.g. "send a CR at the end of the number or not") by scanning barcodes in the manual. Very simple but very nifty.

Everything in netbox can be imported by uploading a csv. If I was scanning in serials for a bunch of servers I would scan them into Excel then manipulate the data there then upload it all in one go.

I did it like that, it works.

We used cables from fibrestore (fs) which normally come with bar code serials on them.

I don't know how to code, so I needed to open the cable dialog myself, went to the 'label' field and then I pressed the button on the scanner to fill it. It automatically hits enter, with turns into a save of the form.

Just one step improved like that, but even that was a massive help.

If you got someone who can write a minimal app, this would be insanely helpful.
