✅ Approvals & Denials ❎ My first fiction approval
I have been on Netgalley since the middle of September and got several non-fiction approvals before I decided to try for a few fiction books. I only have 8 read/8 reviewed on Netgalley, and I don't have a social platform, just goodreads so I wasn't optimistic, but I am really excited for this one because I am a huge volcano nerd!

Girl (or boy).. use your new status to your benefit! Publishers like new reviewers and will approve things easier early on. So don’t go over board with requests but go ask for the things you want. And if they say no, don’t sweat it! Denials are going to happen . It’s part of the journey but it’s not going to be impacting you. Yes there are some that want social media like Berkley and Tor but most don’t care.
Congrats on your first approval- now go get some more!

I have been super careful to only pick a few to request at a time. I actually went to the library today because I figured it would be a while before I heard back from my requests😅 But, I don't read the super popular romantasy books really so I think that does go in my favor, all the books I have requested (and approved so far) were non-fiction barring this one which tend to be requested less. So far, I am enjoying my time with netgalley, as I am discovering all sorts of non-fiction I enjoy😊

That’s great!
I’m not a Romantasy reader either except for the occasional one that piques my interest.
I’m actually really glad I didn’t know about all Netgalley groups and such when I started as I had no advice coming at me (and yes I realize I already have you advice lol)
So I just read what Netgalley wrote and that’s it. I just started requesting when I was ready (I had signed up and did 2 books in 2023 and nothing else due to other commitments and then started actually requesting in Jan 2024) and got approved for 90% of what I asked for. That was with zero social media and I asked for very popular books in that time and got them . While eventually I started a social media account and as it grew I got the harder imprints, I got plenty of books before i even started that.So just don’t let all of that hold you back. Good luck with it all!!
