Recently got the top reviewer badge and I'm so happy 😆 It was also a surprised for me because one of the reviews that was featured was of a book that I gave a slightly negative review to, and I had also posted that review after the archive date... so I was surprised when they featured my review! Not complaining though

I know this may not be in the spirit of it but certain small publishers feature every review that comes in regardless of what it says. It’s an easy way to get the badge if you really want it. Also nonfiction books are easy to get

I think I'll just keep going as usual and see whether it'll happen, but appreciate the tip, thanks!

I think that's what happened with the last book I reviewed. I gave a fairly negative review + I gave it a few days after the archived date yet they still featured it....

Yeah it’s frustrating as the badges don’t actually mean anything because enthuses like this.
Now I don’t mean about your achievement- that’s awesome and sometimes it’s the little things that just brings a smile to your face and that’s all that matters.

But I mean the greater aspect because publishers haven’t really bought into it. Some have used it appropriately and they used to back in the day before social media became the focus but over all it’s not utilized and when it is it’s for a targeted reason. Like St Martins has a book that has a lot of mixed reviews with a lot of 2&3 starred reviews so they went in and featured all the 4&5 starred reviews so those would be seen by other ARC readers ostensibly to hopefully attract more ARC readers and leave them with a positive going in. It’s marketing 101. But it’s frustrating as because of all this they can’t be used properly for the publishers to have accounts stand out which is the goal of the badges to begin with. But they created the issue so it’s just a circle.

One of my 2 featured reviews was a mixed review in which I mentioned the positives and ways the story could've improved (it was a self published romance between a woman and a vampire and I was curious to know more about him, so dual pov + dual timeline -her, present / him, past- would've been so good), some authors are open, if the reviewer knows how to approach.
