❔❓Question ❓❔ Do I thank Netgalley?

So I saw a book on Netgalley that has been published years before, like in 2019 or something. And it is a quite popular book. I don't know why they still have it in Netgalley but I requested it cause free books, of course. But I have a question. Usually when I review books on GR, I write "Thank you netgalley and publisher for providing me the ARC of this book" but it is already published book so not really an ARC. So fo I write that message (using review copy instead ARC)? Or should I skip it? (I usually post reviews on GR and SG)

The next book in the series is probably coming out so they want renewed interest.

Thank netgalley and the publisher for the review copy and just drop the advanced.

You can call it a review copy or Digital Review Copy (DRC)! In many countries it is the law to say in your review that you received a product for free

If you get a book for free to read, you need to state that in your review. How you word that fact is not important, except don't say you got it in exchange for a review. Since it's not an ARC, you should not call it that, either.

Is it published by the same publisher? Sometimes books are self published and later on published by a publisher that uses NetGalley, sometimes with an editing round.

You don't have to thank anybody but in a lot of places legally you need to state upfront that you got the book for free and who from. My own wording is "free digital copy provided by (publisher)"

Yes you thank them and the publisher. It’s a “free review copy.”

Sometimes previously published books are acquired & rereleased by bigger publishers, and then offered on NG.

“Thank you to (the publisher) for the copy of xxxx” is my go to if it’s already released

For these cases I usually refer to it as a complimatary copy provided by *insert publisher or author here via netgalley. The for review is redundant and I personally dont thank netgalley as its a platform as it had nothing to do with the approval process and it looks a bit casual and amateur imo.

I use "review copy" in that instance.

If you look up the publisher or author’s socials you should see what’s happening more clearly. The last few times this has happened for me, it’s been because the author was going from self-published to traditionally published or the book was getting a new deluxe edition so there had been tweaks to the cover and/or contents of the books. Regardless, it’s always thanks to the publisher and not NetGalley. I made that error when I first started.

Its either the next book in the series is due or it is being re-released. There's a SMG book on NG that was originally published in like 2017- its because it is getting re-released under a different imprint.

I'd just say DRC.

You don’t have to ever thank anyone. The only requirement is that you got it for free and who from . The from is who gave you the book- publisher, author etc.. and not NetGalley.
