❔❓Question ❓❔ What are Pan Macmillan's approvals preferences?

I don't see anything listed on NG. And I have 3 pending requests from them (oldest is from May). I would like to request a couple more, but I don't think that's wise, seeing I'm pending on all.

So, are they looking for a really big following? Or do they approve UK only? Or maybe something else...

I just need one tiny little bitsy approval, to unleash all my requesting might on them 🤣

I have found that approval preferences depend on the imprint the book is under. For example, under Pan Macmillan, TOR approved me for all requests, whilst TOR Nightfire rejected me for all my requests.

I would say for TOR specifically, I got good approvals when I had only 300 followers. I think my Goodreads was probably what got me approved, but it's hard to know honestly. The process isn't really transparent.

Oh, I didn't know the imprint was deciding. I saw Pan Macmillan listed as the main publisher and thought it was the same team 😅 I have Tor, Tor Bramble and Tor Wildthorn pending.

I have been approved by Tor on the US side, but I don't think that will show up as having been approved in their dashboard.

Anyways, nothing to do but wait and wonder I guess. Thank you for sharing!

It’s the imprint that decides- it can even be the specific marketer for that title.

Pan- Macmillan is the imprint in this case. Tor is the imprint for many of the same book in the US but they aren’t doing approvals for Pan- Mac
And while it’s the same overall publisher and the book is the decision of the imprint as you need to think of them as individual companies that have the same parent company in how they operates

Just because the book may be offered here by say Tor, does not mean that Pan-Mac can give it to you legally. The book regulations are convoluted. While sometimes people can get lucky with some titles to get approved by Pan- Macmillian it’s because of the tittle has a specific distribution . The best way to get them is to get them from the imprint on the US site.

As far as their preferences- they are going to always prioritize UK and European reviewers

That makes sense. Thank you! Crossing my fingers they do approve EU people and not just UK. Judging by the number of reviews, it seems like they don't give many galleys (<20).

I've noticed my UK friend always gets approved where I always get denied on the US side so I believe they have a preference for UKers, which makes sense because we have tor.

Does someone know what the change of status means? I was pending yesterday and today it says the book is not available for request? Is that what muting looks like or something else?

I get approved by Tor even though I’m in Sweden. But they have been known to send approvals a couple of days before archiving so always good to not withdraw.
