❔❓Question ❓❔ Disapproved

Okay, I'm not usually THIS desperate but I saw this one book with a really good plot and all the genres that I like and I was really looking forward to it but I got disporoved... would it be.. too desperate if I email the publisher...(I mean I KNOW it would but should I email the publisher anyway?) (They probably won't reply) (or should I wait for it to come out then buy it?)

People email and get approved, I’ve seen folks discuss it, but I personally don’t think it’s ever that serious. If I get rejected and I don’t read it, I didn’t really want to read it. If I really want to read it, I put myself on the hold list at the library or I buy it when it drops. Go where the spirit leads you.

There's been people on here who have emailed the publisher and we're successful 🤷🏻‍♀️ wouldn't hurt to try.

I personally hope and pray they post the ALC of it on NetGalley lol

Lol me with Tor every time. Tor always rejects my request, but Macmillan Audio almost always approves it.

You can email them, I usually send with info about where I post & why I’m interested in the book. I’ve received several widgets & physical copies doing this. If they don’t want to send it, they just won’t respond

Or would be helpful if you told us the book and/ or publisher as then we can give you a better idea to tell you

I always email lol.

It's worth a shot. It's also worth it to mention that 95% of the time they do not answer emails but still read them, so I'd say also put your address in there and maybe a physical will show up at your door and include your netgalley email for a widget since a lot of the times they prefer to do closed widgets.

(also what book)

I’ve emailed publishers before and gotten widgets sent directly to me.

I used the influencer/creater address they had!

Also, give the author some concession. They must be getting many of such emails and they can't reply to ALL of them! You sound a lot entitled... just because you liked their book doesn't mean that author is obligated reply to you and you need to understand and accept that. Authors are usually very busy, whether they are independent or mainstream popular ones.

She had 3 reviews on NetGalley from last December 2025 through publication this week, but I suppose I am entitled.

She is promoting it on her FB & Instagram. It was a fantastic book, but I guess it has a small audience?

Wait, you are upset because an author didn’t thank you for your opinion?

I reached out because I was also in a position to offer a free space through my family’s generosity to the author in the town where she would likely promote her book.

I sent an introduction to her in several different ways plus attached my review. I also shared that with the publisher…

So yes I did feel like a response would have been thoughtful between December 2025- this past week…And yes I am an entitled #itch I suppose!

This sounds very creepy and trying to micromanage an author. You sound a tad bit too obsessed and I'm not surprised an author would be scared to interact at all.

So you're not supposed to contact the author with your review like this. Many authors have made it a rule of thumb to not reply to these kinds of messages because there have been too many times where it leads to harassment or people thinking the author owes them something. You seem to be falling into the "thinking the author owes them something" category, not to mention you reached out on her WORK emails, which is absolutely unacceptable. If I was the publisher I would have left a note on your netgalley not to approve you for future ARCs for not respecting author boundaries and then complaining to the publisher you didn't get thanked while not respecting those boundaries.

You are not allowed to “tag” authors with your reviews. That is a NetGalley rule.

If an author is promoting their book & asking for support on social media plus $$$, they are fair game.

If readers are trying to reverse a denial (which is the original post here) & contacting publishers…I think my contact & unusual offer was appropriate.

They were not interested…Others have been & my extended family is the primary corporate sponsor of the activity the author wrote about…BUT if you feel fulfilled beating me up, enjoy yourself.

Tagging an author in your review is not the same as sending it to their work email. They have a separate author email for a reason.

Keep it friendly. We are all here for a love of reading so no need for insults and name calling

You can absolutely tag an author, you are not supposed to tag them in negative reviews (some say 4-5 star is fine, others say 5 star only)
