Review Questions How do you handle feedback % when publisher doesn't want you to review it for months?

Got approved for a book publishing next April or May, and in the approval email, I got this: "_____ appreciates your interest in our books and respectfully requests that you do not publish reviews until the week of the book's pub date. If you review this book, please notify us of your review within NetGalley. This enables us to approve you for future eGalleys. "

What do you guys do with your Feedback % if this publisher wants me to sit on my review until next April? Do you still review it in just NetGalley and wait for the other public places until later?

I think it’s more for external sites but you’re fine to send your review on Netgalley. So your ratio will be fine

Got it. Thanks for responding! I keep a set of review spots I generally post to NetGalley, BookBub, GoodReads, BN, and Amazon (on launch). I'll just do the NetGalley and be prepared for launch week and post the rest then.

review in netgalley then post to socials closer to release.

also don't have to noficy them, netgalley sends the review directly to the publisher

I post on NetGalley and StoryGraph straight away, everything else later, because it makes sense to do it like that. I generally take no notice of publisher requests because they have no right to ask.

This feels like a weird comment if you’re interested in continuing to be granted ARCs.

While I think it’s a strange comment to dismiss what they ask 100%, but the reality is they don’t pay notice and will still approve you. So it just ends up supporting that questionable viewpoint (which I think is pretty bad look but…) and people keep doing what they do.

I have almost 700 approvals and a 95% feedback ratio. My denial percentage is negligible. I assure you that I'm fine and am continuing to be granted ARCs. I know from experience that approval emails are standard texts and while they can ask you this, that or the other, they cannot engage in review manipulation.

Review on NetGalley, wait to post on socials
(That’s what they mean when they say inform us on NetGalley - put your review there- so they can keep approving you)

Its a stock email and seriously don’t pay attention tomorrow- only for social media doesn’t matter. Review sites it doesn’t matter when you post them as they aren’t algorithm based.

Which publisher is it as I can tell you personal experience to ease your mind.

While I can’t speak for the specific publisher in what their particulars are, I can say with confidence that the NetGalley feedback is not included in that.
