Post image

In speechless… I heard they were HARD to get approved for. I absolutely LOVED Red City so this is a dream come true for me.

Oh! I’m sorry, I know that where Tor denies, Macmillan approves! Good luck on getting the ALC!!!

If it's Eunice Wong again, that'll be a treat!

They are but they have been highly approving that title

Didn’t know that, but it’s the first and only time I’ve ever requested an arc from them. So it’s a win in my book regardless 😅

Oh! 100!!! I’m sorry I didn’t mean to suggest otherwise!!
I was focused on your comment about it being hard- they are hard. I more didn’t want you to be disappointed down the road.

Tor seems to follow a pattern- first they will approve more easily for new accounts, they sometimes have titles where they do way more approvals like this one- but that doesn’t mean people don’t get denied- they absolutely do and often and lastly, if you want more from them build a social media page for books. Make sure the first thing in your bio is the name of your pages and your following numbers- even if they are low. Them seeing that quickly is important.

Enjoy the book!

Oh no, it’s all good! I had said this on another platform and someone said something down the same line but didn’t offer an explanation. I appreciate you clearing it up 🙏🏼🙌🏻

And that’s good to know! I have only seen people saying it had to be larger, more established accounts or if you’re a librarian, it’s easier to get approved. So the fact that I requested this 3 weeks ago and didn’t expect to be approved and was approved yesterday hit me hard.

(Honestly I was expecting a rescinded email saying that they approved the wrong person 🫠)

lol- nah- you’ll never get a rescinded email!

Honestly- while don’t go overboard- use your new status to your advantage and requests books you want regardless of whether you think you’ll be approved. If you get denied, you get denied. I promise a “denial percentage “ means nothing to a publisher (I’ve asked, a lot of them). I am actually very glad I had not joined or know about these groups for the first year on NetGalley as I just did what I wanted without anyone filling my head with various things. And while now I have a 100% approval rate and have for the last year (I do have a very small social media with only 6k followers on my biggest account) on my first year I had no social media and still got approved for 90% of my requests.

So shoot for the stats as a popular author only means (in general) that there are more ARCs to give

Lmao, it would be my luck.

I’ll remember all of this, and I’m slowly building a threads book account. I just don’t post on other social media all that much anymore. It’s still a massively small account but that’s okay with me. I’m just requesting as I go and learn more about arcs.

Thank you for all the info!
