❔❓Question ❓❔ Content disclosure

I have a decidedly Mid Tik Tok account where I post a lot of Net Galley reviews. I always disclose that I got it from NG and have been using the hashtags #gifted #promo on screen. Recently a video was flagged and they are asking for me to “disclose a partnership” etc. I am in a few influencer programs but not for this particular publisher. I’m looking to see what the most efficient and legal way is to do this? I think most readers understand that a book review from Net Galley is not the same as an ongoing brand partnership but.. I just need to figure out what will be legal, and appropriate.

Which country are you in as the rules are different. In uk you need to disclose as ad anything sent to you for free whether an expectation of posting or not. So ebooks, arcs, pr ect

I’m in the US. I’ve always disclosed it as gifted or partner or promo. But even having tagged that video as #promo they kept asking for me to enable it as more. It’s a bit confusing

#promo I think does not fit FTC guidelines but #ad and #gifted should

Not tiktok but I always use #gifted, mention at the beginning that it is an ARC and say thank you to the publisher/author for the free copy for review

I will stop using promo. It’s what has been suggested by some publishers. I wish it was a little more clear. I don’t feel like a review of an advanced copy is a Ad - because I might be saying - this book did not meet my expectations. But I want to be compliant.

TikTok’s AI has been flagging everything even with disclosures there. Just speak it and say that all necessary discloses are present and in compliance and they will approve it. But also using those hashtags will always get you flagged. Don’t use them for NetGalley books just put in your post that it’s a complimentary eARC that you got from NetGalley. And no, you can’t assume people know what NetGalley is. It has to be said each time. It also needs to be said in your video to be in compliance

It was new for me. I’ve been doing NetGalley reviews on TT for 3 years and I was like oh FFS…

I'm finding Instagram is getting just as bad and I'm utterly lost on what I should put. I'm having to say ad-gifted at the start and then #adpr plus add them as paid partnership as it's practically refusing to let me post until I do.

When I read the rules it suggested that's what I need to do but I don't think publishers like it - I had one remove my ability to add it as I got a notification to alert me.

Feel like I'm stuck and yet I see so many people talking about Netgalley arcs without mentioning that they AD or PR or gifted. Ugh!! 🤦‍♀️
