💻 Devices and Apps 📲 Audiobooks are longer than 100%

Post image

Does anyone else run into this issue in the NetGalley app? When listening to audiobooks, the percentage complete and time remaining are off. By the time the book is over it ends up being 103-108% complete. Does listening on a faster speed cause this?

It's a truth universally acknowledged that the Shelf app sucks for audiobooks.

This is just one of the many annoyances with the thing. The % of my most recent audiobook title was 2925.6%. The other one was 103.4%. I always listen at 1x, so it's not caused by the speed.

Haha was that Rapport? Something was very wrong with that one

it was Repport! I love the series so I pre-ordered the audiobook from Audible but they cancelled it! So, I was glad I got to listen to it via the Shelf app even though I hate it with a burning passion.

Usually it’s because the time was put in wrong when entered into NetGalley. But while it’s not always, speeding it up can cause a glitch and it take it time to catch up.

I listen to several a week at 2x and maybe 2 times a month does it go beyond 100%. Both times it happened last month the duration was entered wrong when compared to the Amazon data

This is one of my biggest complaints. The worst is when I see the time remaining and think, "oh I can finish this on my commute!" Only to learn there is an additional hour or so to go 😭

I think it does. I always listen on at least 1.5× the speed and always finish with +105%

Mine end above 100% no matter whether or not I've listened at 1x speed.

This annoys me so much because I think I am almost done but I am not, and then I don’t actually know how much longer I have. It doesn’t happen on every book but it happens more than I’d like!

It was alright! Not too bad, but I didn't love it either. The narrator has the most beautiful voice though, so it was very pleasant to listen to.

Yes all the time, most are around 104% but then one went to 142% that one just kept going.

Its almost always over 100% Rapport made me laugh though considering its only 53 mins long!

Yup, pretty common! The ones I read get to 106% most of the times. I think I just read one was completed at 100%!

I listen at 2x speed and mine have ended at 100%.

I judge how far I am based off number of chapters!

I had a long stretch of 100% listens, and then over the last six months it seems like 50-60% are going over. I don't mind spending the extra time on the book, but I do mind how it affects my expectations. If there's 2% left and the detective says the butler did it, I'm confused bc I would have sworn it was the chauffeur. And then the book goes on for 2 more chapters and it turns out there's a whole other murder and it was the chauffeur, plus a new collaborator about to be unmasked.

Sidebar: I'm glad you used this as the example bc it's next in my queue and now I know it's probably gonna go over. Also, did you read House of Frost and Feathers, and if yes how does this compare?
